Parker, Colorado is a town located in Routt County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,853 as of the 2010 census. The Parker Mining District is located in the town. The first settlers to Parker were Levi Archer and his family who came from Illinois in 1855. They started a cabin on what is now called State Street and built a small store along with other enterprises such as a sawmill and gristmill. In 1868, they erected the first school building in the area which still stands today. In 1869, pioneer George Hildebrandt arrived from Iowa with his family and began farming in what is now known as the Hildebrandt Ranch. He planted wheat, cotton and potatoes in that location which became one of the most productive agricultural regions of Colorado at that time. In 1870s two brothers named Isaac Smith (1848-1914) opened a rancho south of present day Parker on land that had been part of Cache Valley Indian Reservation northeast of Aspen. One brother named John Smith (1850-1925) operated it until 1893 when he sold it to Harry Mills who then operated it until 1912 when he sold it to Averill Wilkinson who developed it into an oilfield empire known as Kinney Oil Company Limited which merged with Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in 1969 to form Occidental Petroleum Corporation Of America headquartered at 4500 Broadway Avenue N., Suite 600 Denver CO 80235 Phone: 303/893-6000 Fax: 303/893-6001 Email: occidental@opcoa.com.) The original millrace running through downtown Parker ran from Main Street east to Gunnison Creek north then turned west near Pikes Peak Boulevard before entering Gunnison National Forest just past Interstate 25W where it met US Highway 20N about 3 miles northwest of central Parkersburg southeast of Keystone Lake where Parkersburg crossed I-25E about 5 miles east of present day Parker

Parker, Colorado is a small town in southeastern Colorado. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rocky Mountains region and lies on the eastern edge of the Uncompahgre Plateau. The first discovery of oil in Parker occurred in 1911 when two men, Harry Kapp and John Fenton, drilled a well near what is now called Horseshoe Bend. The well was abandoned after a short while because there were no production possibilities. However, during World War I an oil field was discovered in nearby Trinidad County and petroleum began to be produced from this site in 1919. In 1930, Parker incorporated as a city with a population of 2,003 people. The city experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century due to its location on Dinosaur National Monument and its status as an important stop on stagecoach routes between Denver and other settlements in southeastern Colorado. By 1920, Parker had become one of the most important towns in southern Rocky Mountain Region due to its position as both an economic center for oil drilling and for providing services such as education and health care to local residents. Due to its importance within regional politics and economy, Parker quickly became known as "the Gateway City". During World War II, Parker played an integral role in military production by producing munitions and food for soldiers stationed throughout Southwest Asia. As part of their effort to support war efforts, many businesses located within downtown Parker opened their doors during wartime times - some becoming very successful (such as J P Laughlin's clothing store), while others failed (such as the Clock Tower). Overall however, downtown business operations continued uninterrupted during wartime-era Parkersburg thanks largely to government assistance programs which subsidized various aspects of town life (e.g., water supplies). In recent decades several changes have taken place within our community including growing concerns about energy independence; however these worries have not led to significant redevelopment or new construction within Downtown Parkersburg since early 2000s when all major development activity ceased abruptly without warning or explanation once tax breaks expired effective November 1st 2001
The Parker family had a long and prosperous history in the area. They were among the early settlers in what is now Parker County, Colorado. The first wife of John Parker, Jane Randolph, married Miguel de la Hoz on November 12, 1827. They were the parents of six children: four sons and two daughters. Miguel de la Hoz was a leader in the Mexican-American War and played an important role in creating ranching opportunities for those living near Fort Collins. He also became involved with banking and other businesses. In 1872, he married Lucille Richards, who was also from Fort Collins. The couple had eleven children together: nine sons and three daughters. John Parker died in 1907 and his widow Lucille Richards continued to live in Fort Collins until her death in 1943. She is buried at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband and their eleven children.
