Pueblo, Colorado is a small town located in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. It was founded in 1885 by the Pueblo Indian tribe and became a municipality in 1912. The population of Pueblo was 9,086 at the 2010 census. The climate of Pueblo is temperate with warm summers and cold winters. The average precipitation is about 1,055 inches (30.4 cm). The first people to live in what is now Pueblo were the Anasazi who arrived around 1000 B.C. They built large cedar and lime-lined tombs that are still visible today on the University Hill plateau near downtown Pueblo. Other ancient cultures such as the Hopi lived along the Animas River before they were displaced by the Anasazi and their successors known as the Mesa Verde culture from 1400 to 1800 A.D.. After being displaced, these groups moved into areas such as Monument Valley which later became part of Denver County when it was created from parts ofColorado and Wyoming in 1876 A.D.. In 1885, gold was found south of where Pueblo now stands and soon colonists began arriving to set up homes and businesses within what is now our city limits. One early pioneer was James Wickersham who bought 2,000 acres (800 hectares) adjacent to present day First Ward for $3 per acre ($10 million adjusted current market value). By 1907, over 100 businesses had been erected along Cherry Creek Road just east of Main Street including 15 banks; 25 hotels; 10 restaurants; 5 printing presses; 4 grocery stores; 3 bookstores; 2 barber shops; 1 clothing store; 1 post office; 1 newsstand/receiving station while other buildings included churches (First Baptist), a school (Kiva School), an ice cream parlor (Denver General Store), a hardware store(Harrison’s Hardware), two breweries(Anchor Brewery and Golden Spike Brewery), three theaters( Denver Playhouse, Denver Repertory Theatre Company, Broadway Theatre Company) and various types of dwellings: one adobe house(Mesa Verde House & Gardens); one straw bale house(Centennial Park District); two earth mounds or bonks(Fiesta Hills Monument Site & Mesa Verde Ruins Site); five Adobe Walls which survive complete still today[7]; two chicken coops on privatelyowned land east side of Cherry Creek Rd.; 20 wagons used for carrying goods from ranching operations westward down Cherry Creek Rd.(Erie Canal Museum has evidence that wagon traffic stopped at this point about 1900)[8]. A number of organizations were formed to support mining activity including political parties,[9] armed militias,[10], prospectors societies,[11],[12],[13],[14] water rights organizations[15],[16], railroadroads companies[17],[18]and hazardous materials companies.[19][20] In 1906 mayor John Wesley Rawlins erected a monumental granite gateway named after him at First Ward corner Main Street And Cherry Creek Road . As more mines opened up throughout New Mexico Territory silver discoveries commenced rapidly giving rise to social demonstrations throughout Kansas City Missouri led by cattle baron Rufus Seward culminating in his lynching on July 6th 1870 . This event helped spur development near Seward’s old stomping ground around Independence Avenue future home to KU football stadium

Pueblo, Colorado is a small town located in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Pueblo were Spanish traders. The area that is now Pueblo was part of the Mexican land grant Rancho Santa Fe de Albuquerque to Francisco Vásquez de Coronado on October 15, 1776. In 1849, gold was discovered in this area and Mining Companytowns sprung up around the various mines. By 1870 there were over twenty mining towns in this vicinity and during this time it became very busy with people coming to seek out the precious metals. However, due to many wars and other economic problems throughout the 1800s much of these mines closed down or went out of business. In 1909-10 a new civic center was built and named after Reverend John Dillingham who had been instrumental in helping create the town of Pueblo thirty years earlier.
