Arriving at San Luis Potosi about September 1st they laid down their arms and continued on foot Explore what would be Mexico City only to find that Mexican forces had withdrawn leaving them besieged within walls without food or water supplies! On October 15th Captain Browning led a detachment consisting mainly OF “Natchez Volunteers” upriver along side Mexican troops entrenched behind hills while Company I commanded by Lieutenant Colonel James Hance (1800-1865) pushed forward flank February 6th 1817 finally relieving Mexican garrison after five days fight becoming first American volunteer unit ever[1]. Joshua Lanyon decided upon relocation back home so his wife Susannah could take care of their four children but due to political unrest at home he didn't receive any compensation which caused him great financial hardship which eventually forced him into bankruptcy [2]. With just $3 left over from his sale of goods at San Luis Potosi he started construction on what would become known as The Grapesvine Hotel & Casino which opened its doors on November 12th 1800 [3]. Today this building still stands next door to The Wells Fargo Building located directly off US Highway 89A just south of downtown Steamboat Springs [4]. After struggling through difficult times throughout much of his life Joshua passed away poverty stricken aged 85 years old but leaving behind a legacy that continues today – A community that values hard work and effort more than anything else [5].

The town was founded by John Jacob Astor on his steamboat "Hecla" in 1859. In 1863, he sold the town to George Hearst for $5,000. Hearst renamed it after himself and built a summer home there. The first post office opened in 1865. In 1879, an addition to the post office named Mount Pleasant resulted in the town's name being changed back to Steamboat Springs after another Astor descendant became owner of that property. In 1902, local businessman and mayor Cornelius Hickey bought 100 acres (39 hectares) of land east of Steamboat Springs for $10,000 and developed it into what is now downtown Steamboat Springs with homes, stores and a small airport.
