In 1836 ABC merged with British Binoculations Company to form British & American Optical Co., which continued to produce binoculars until it ceased operations in 1916. During World War I, Americans produced millions of pieces of equipment called "trench optics." These devices allowed soldiers on the battlefield to see far beyond what human eyes could see. Some people refer to these devices as "binocularity," because they allow you to see several things at once without having two separate views looking into your eye like with a telescope or microscope.

Naugatuck was founded by Sir John NaugatUCK and others in 1686 as a trading post on the Mystic River. The first house was built in 1711 by Richard Willard and Nathanael Greene. In 1814, Colonel Nathaniel Lyon purchased land from the Indians for $2,000 and began to build a mill on the riverbank which he named Naugatuck Falls after his birthplace in Normandy, France. In 1824, Colonel Lyon's mill was destroyed by an avalanche during a winter storm. In 1886–87, Congress created Naugatuck Township out of portions of two other townships – Westfield and East Haven – to serve as its own local government center for eastern Connecticut. By 1900 there were over 1,000 people living in Naugatuck Township including farmers, merchants, workers at mills and factories located throughout the township along with their families who gathered around churches or chapels dedicated to religious services on Saturday mornings before going home to their farms or homes on Sunday night

Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 10,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Hartford–Springfield metropolitan area. Naugatuck was first settled in 1664 by colonists from Delaware and Rhode Island. The first post office was established in 1702 in the town of Naugatuck. In 1814, it became part of Hartford County. The community of Naugatuck was originally known as "Newtown". The name may be derived from the Native American word naghtucke which means "a small stream or creek." In 1814, an act to rename the town after General John Parker was passed by the Connecticut General Assembly and signed by President James K. Polk; however, this act did not become effective until April 1, 1815 when it was published in the Gazetteer under that name and also named Parkersburg (the present-day borough). On July 11, 1850 a fire destroyed most of what remains of Newtown Center on North Main Street in what is now known as Bridgeport Township. In 1892 Naugatuck had 7 saloons with a total liquor sales volume of $1 million; there were only 2 grocery stores and no plumbing or heating systems then! Today’s economy relies largely on tourism and agriculture but some businesses continue to survive including: Applebees restaurant chain (founded 1984), several clothing boutiques (owned by Sears Holdings Corporation) as well as two casinos (one opened in 2018). There are also several professional offices located throughout village center – one being McAfee & Associates which has been headquartered here since 1978. The Village Green Shopping mall contains many local businesses such as Dunkin' Donuts coffee shop and Best Buy/Sears home products store among others!
On the banks of the Thames in Naugatuck, Connecticut, there once stood a large and prosperous town. It was known for its mills, textile production, and other businesses. But today, it is little more than a ghost town. The town was established in 1785 by Nicholas Wadsworth and his wife Sarah. Wadsworth was an entrepreneur who owned many businesses in Naugatuck. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, such as coal and woodlands. However, within a few decades, the town's prosperity had disappeared. In 1825, Wadsworth sold his business interests in Naugatuck to John Waitley. Waitley declined to continue expanding the milltowns industry and instead decided to focus on agriculture. The town slowly declined over the next several years until it completely vanished by 1830.
