Waterbury, Connecticut is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 21,752 at the 2010 census. Waterbury was founded in 1764 by Colonel Jonathan Trumbull and his wife Sarah Pratt. It became an incorporated town on December 13, 1825. In 1892 it merged with the neighboring town of Derby to form the current city of Waterbury. The first holster made in Waterbury was by Daniel Cline in 1824. Cline's holster was designed to be worn around the waist as a belt holster and could hold up to four rounds of ammunition. Since Waterbury is home to one of the oldest manufacturers of holsters in America, American Holster Co., Inc., it has been called "the cradle of American leather-making." The company began making holsters for handguns in 1853 and rifles starting in 1855. The first gun that American Holster produced with a detachable magazine was the .45 Colt revolver.
