In 1906, citrus growers from Stonington developed a new type of fruit tree called Boulevard orange which quickly spread throughout southeast Florida because it could not be found elsewhere. The first mention of “Aventura” was made in a deed dated November 26th 1886 by Jens Jensen et al., citizens of Stonington (later renamed Jacksonville) to purchasers Cornelius Vanderbilt & Co., owners of 8 acres (3 ha) of rich bottomland lying northwest cornerof present day Third Street east sideof present day Orange Avenue south sideof Third Street formed by taking off said acreage northeast corner aforesaid between Orange Avenue & Third Street adjoining Fenton Road forming site for future market garden known as Lemon Grove grove before said tract passed into memory or other ownership etc.– therefore real estate hereinbefore mentioned being assigned unto us as follows: – thenceforward referring to this property as “AventURA” In 1925, developers built Ocean Drive which connected Miami Beach with downtown Miami while still preserving much of the natural environment around it; this resulted in increased traffic congestion on Aventura Boulevard and caused many businesses to close their doors due to competition from shopping malls nearby like Sunrise Mall and Miracle Mile Shopping Centre
