Davie, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 116,636 at the 2010 census. Davie was founded on October 1, 1892 by cattle ranchers J.P. Howell and Wm.C. Robertson as a small town name for Thomson Ranch; it became a city on November 3 of that year when Thomson Ranch became part of the City of Miami Beach area annexed by Miami Beach Municipal Court #1 during the 1917 annexation process which merged all the towns within Miami-Dade County into one municipality. On December 12, 1925, Davie incorporated as a village under the name "Thomson" and reincorporated as a city on January 2nd, 1926 with an estimated population of 1008 residents The first post office in Davie opened in 1893 and closed in 1895 because of lack of mail service to the town from Cudahy or Biscayne Bayou; however, this did not stop people from sending postcards to their friends and family back home! The original Townsite Plan for Thomson included 5 blocks with 50 homes each (later increased to 75 homes), but due to limited funding from local officials only 9 blocks were built - three blocks facing downtown and four blocks facing North Beach Boulevard The growth of tourism started out slowly in Davie until World War II when things changed quickly due to its strategic location between two major naval bases – South Florida Naval Air Station (now Everglades National Park) just south of town and US military installations including Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport less than 25 miles away During World War II many American soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport completed their tours before returning home where they started businesses such as trucking companies providing transportation for troops throughout southern Florida Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport served as both an airport used by American military personnel stationed there during World War II as well as commercial airline headquarters until it closed its doors in 1983 following economic difficulties brought about by then-new airport restrictions
