This trend changed with the onset of Hurricane Irma which hit South Florida hard on September 20th 2017 causing significant damage across much of downtown Miami including parts of both within walking distance of each other – one could easily walk between these two districts if they so desired! The first European settlers arrived in Doral in 1837, when James Fenton purchased land from Juan Ponce de León for £5 per acre (2 kg). In 1840, Colonel David Levy bought part of Fenton's land and built his home there called "Levy House". A post office was established at Doral on December 12, 1840. By 1845, two churches had been built there: First Baptist Church which was dedicated on January 15th that year by Mayor John Hogg and Second Baptist Church which was dedicated by Col. Levy on February 2nd. In 1861, Pompano Beach growers Eli Stroudt and Jno Bischoff decided to establish a town around their citrus groves northeast of Miami Beach due to lack of available land elsewhere in South Florida. On November 25th they submitted an application to county commissioners for a township called "Pompano Beach" with a population of 10 people living within 3 miles (5 km) of each other; it would have included all present-day Doral except for Cutler which would have been annexed into Pompano Beach at that time. The commissioners granted their request on December 12th but modified it so that only 7 out of 10 proposed residents could vote because they were required to own property within 3 miles (5 km) of their dwellings instead of just living within walking distance thereof; this provision allowed development along Biscayne Boulevard between Commercial Drive and Coconut Grove Avenues while still prohibiting annexation into adjacent townships or neighborhoods without prior approval from commissioners. On January 1st 1870 Daniel Kahan sold 60 acres (24 ha) nearcurrent day Miramar airport for $1 per acre (0.50 kg). This site became known as Kahan's Airport after him since no buildings were erected there until after his death in 1942 when Wilfred Ehrlich leased it from heathrow airlines for use as an airstrip during World War II military training operations over Miramar Island using bomb bays created by forward air controllers flying Harvard bombers over nearby Key West rather than landing at Miramar Airport due to its unpaved runway conditions.).
