Gun lights are an important part of the Florida Highway Patrol's history. The first gun lights were put in use during World War I. Gun lights were used to help officers view potential offenders while driving. Today, gun lights are still used by the FHP to helpOfficers see people and vehicles on the road. The Florida Highway Patrol began using car headlights in 1922. At that time, it was believed that car headlights would be more effective at seeing cars and people on the road than gun light beams. However, this theory was not realized until after 1930 when a study was conducted to determine if car headlights could be turned off while driving in order to use gun light beams. Although it was decided that car headlights could not be turned off while driving, they did become available for purchase in 1932. In 1937, the FHP purchased two sets of .30 caliber machine guns from Ford Motor Company which were mounted on trailers and used as law enforcement firearms for use on local roadsides and other areas where there was potential for traffic stops or crime scenes being discovered. These guns became known as "Tripwire Guns." By 1945, both types of handguns had been replaced with revolvers by the FHP because of concerns about their compatibility with automatic pistols then being deployed by military forces throughout the world including America's involvement in World War II. The revolver type handgun remained in service through 1987 when it was finally replaced by a Glock pistol model 10mm submachinegun manufactured by Heckler & Koch AG (H&K). This change came about due to recommendations made by then-Director David Boren who felt that submachineguns should provide greater firepower than handguns when appropriate circumstances arose such as close quarter combat or hostage standoff situations where gunfire would be required.

The event was so successful that it was repeated in 1893 and 1897. In 1899, a rifle range was built on Broadwalk and NRA members began using it. By 1912, Haines City had become an annual shooting competition destination with over 100 shooters from all over Florida coming to compete. The competition attracted such well-known names as Teddy Roosevelt and Adlai Stevenson Jr.
Haines City is located in Monroe County, Florida, within the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,873. The city is named after Haines Island in Lake Okeechobee. The first settlers arrived in 1837 and were led by Major John A. Haines. Haines City was platted on November 24, 1909, by a group of businessmen from Jacksonville who were looking for a location to build a phosphate mine. In 1922, Haines City became an incorporated municipality and has kept that status ever since. The city is home to several major corporations including United Parcel Service (UPS), American Airlines Group (AAL), PepsiCo USA Inc., PNC Bank and Trust Company, Samsung Electronics America Inc., Knight First National Bank (KNBT) and Citrus Research & Marketing Corporation (CRM). Additionally, there are numerous small businesses throughout the city that contribute to its economy. Haines City also enjoys several popular attractions which include:the Alligator Alley amusement park; Bass Pro Shops; Key Largo Casino Resort; Hurricane Harbor Marina; Dolphin's Den theme park; and Gulfstream Park Theme Park which features rides such as "Gulfstreamer" and "Cabrillo". There are also several private golf courses located within the city limits as well as tennis complexes/clubs located nearby like Dolphins Tennis Club and Bayou Woods Golf Course.

Gunlights then fell out of popularity until the early 21st century when modern technologies resumed their usage in law enforcement and hunting applications
The first light guns were created in 1851 by George Washington Williams. The gun was a percussion cap design that consisted of a metal tube with an explosive charge at the top. When fired, the blast caused a spark which ignited the powder in the tube and caused the gun to fire.
Haines City, Florida was founded in 1821 by Captain Elias Haines and his brother-in-law, John Smith. The city was named for the Sabine River which bisects the town. The first store in Haines City was built by Capt. Haines and J.M. Cooley on the corner of East 2nd Street and South Main Street. In 1828, General John Suggs founded a sawmill in Haines City which soon became one of the most important businesses in town. By 1830, there were nine stores in Haines City with a population of 350 people. In 1838, Captain Nathaniel Bowles purchased land east of downtown from General John Suggs which he used to build a millrace called “The Big Branch” that served as an outlet for river water until it was dammed off in 1921. In 1851, Captain Elias Haines transferred ownership of his business to his son Isaac who renamed it The Eastern Mills Company (later known as Eastern Mill).Captain Elias also donated land to be used for school purposes and another piece of property on First Street between State Road 7A and US 1B were donated for a courthouse and jail which were completed in 1865. In 1868, Captain Elias Jr.'s widow sold her interest in the company to Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt who changed the name to United States Steel Corporation (USSC) . USSC made heavy investments into steel production including building two blast furnaces at Pascagoula River near Mobile Bay; this allowed them to become world leaders insteel production After Commodore Cornelius Vandemare's death in 1901, control passed through his daughter Alice Vandemare Howe who renamed the company Stoneware Corporation (later known as baking powder corporation). In 1932,control passed through Alice Howe's granddaughter Frances Holmberg Howe whose father had been chairman of USSC during World War I .Frances Howell organized what is now Stoneware International Incorporated with its headquarters located at 6015 Rockville Pike NW Suite 400 , Washington D.(Stoneware International reorganized itself into Unilever plc., unilever inc., ltd on November 30th 2009) making it one of largest food processors globally
Haines City is located in Polk County, Florida and was founded on December 8, 1884 by J.M. Haines and his family. It became a city on February 17, 1907. The population of Haines City was 23,463 at the 2010 census.
