Haines City is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Miami metropolitan area. The first recorded mention of Haines City was in 1836, when it was called "Haileyville". The name change to Haines City because of the sound of a wave hitting a sandbank and being heard by traders on shoreline near present day Hollywood Boulevard and Federal Highway. In 1893, George Fenton bought 640 acres (248 hectares) east of Haines City frombroward County for $5,000. He named his new town "Fenton". In 1902, he sold all his land except for 154 acres (64 hectares) which became known as the Fenton Ranch. There were two schools in early Haines City – one operated by parents and children living in homes on State Road 7th Street and another run by teachers who stopped teaching after school to help with farm work on their properties. A post office called Haileyville opened in 1902, but closed due to lack of customers; it reopened under the name Haines City on April 1st that year. At this time there were only around 50 residents living in what is now downtown Haine's Creek Village including 28 farmers and six fishermen who fished off SW 11th Street & US 1st Avenue where they caught catfish, bream and sturgeon which they cooked over an open fire or heated brick oven until done. After World War II ended with Victory Over Japan Day 1945 local businesses began opening up again such as gas stations/petsitting shops along Federal Highway as well as pizzerias along Hollywood Boulevard - making Downtown into something more like what we know today including banks/grocery stores/restaurants etc... Today most people can be found walking or biking through Downtown where there are ample restaurants/bars/stores within easy walking distance

Haines City, Florida is an unincorporated community located in Clay County, Florida, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. Haines City is named after Captain James Haines who surveyed the area in 1836. The post office operated from 1886 until 1907. The first settler in Haines City was John Pemberton who arrived on a small boat from Georgia on July 10, 1837. He built a cabin and raised chickens to provide food for himself and his family. In 1840, Pemberton married Sarah Auld and they started to farm land around their cabin. One of their children, John Auld Haines, became one of the pioneers of Clay County and will be buried there in Mission Cemetery #1 (now part of Springhill Cemetery). Captain James Haine survey the area that would become Clay County in 1836 when he traveled overland from Mobile Bay along the Alabama River Valley to Jacksonville Landing on Pensacola Bay. His maps show that he had landed on what is now known as east side of Lake Okeechobee when he came across an abandoned Indian village near present day Fort Myers Beach which had been evacuated by Chief Muscogee Chief Tecumseh because of a possible Mexican invasion threat. The buildings still remain standing today! In 1861 Captain George Washington Dye surveyed much of what is now Clay County including parts of today's Haines City and north side of Lake Okeechobee while traveling downriver from Jacksonville Landing through Orange Blossom Trail country to Tallahassee where he headquarters with Confederate General Braxton Bragg during the American Civil War under US President Abraham Lincoln’s command! It was not until after Reconstruction led by Ulysses S Grant when white men began farming in large numbers into this area that businesses were established such as J C Higgins Hardware Store which continued operation until around 1920 according to local historian Donny Seaton whose book "Haintesville: A History" covers much more about this early history about this historic community located just off Interstate 95 just eastof I-75 exit 131A off State Road 811 today's Beaches Boulevard exits & Oak Lawn neighborhood
