In 1831, Captain James Waddell and his men built a fort at what is now known as Fort Walton Beach. They used their cannons to protect themselves from Seminole Indians who were attacking nearby villages. The fort served as a stopping point for travelers on their way to Tallahassee, Florida. In 1838, Lake City was founded by Captain Hernando de Soto and his followers when they arrived from Cuba. They named the town after DeSoto’s brother-in-law, Manuel de la Montaña. From here, they conducted raids into Spanish territory in search of slaves and treasure. In 1851, Tampa was established as the county seat of Hillsborough County and Lake City became a part of that county. However, it continued to be called Lake City until1892 when it was changed to Tampa Bay according to plans made by politician James Buchanan Polk. At that time, Tampa had become an important port for shipping goods between South America and North America due to its location at the mouth of this river. During World War II, large quantities of materiel were stockpiled at Camp Clearwater which was located adjacent to what is now downtown Tampa on Boca Raton Boulevard (now Ybor Parkway). This included artillery ammunition and tanks which were being stored there during World War II because it would not be accessible through military roads or ports so munitions could only be transported by air or sea. The camp served as an assembly center for troops stationed in southern Florida during World War II and also housed some 3 million pieces of equipment including more than 2 thousand airplanes including bombers such as Boeing B-29 Superfortresses which flew over Tokyo during the war).
Lake City is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Lake City were Creekside Indians who hunted and fished in the area around present-day downtown. A post office was established in 1875, and by 1886, there were over 100 residents. In 1903, the city had a population of 350 and was incorporated as a town on November 14 that year under the name of Dunnellon. Cooksville followed suit two years later on December 15th of that year. On January 1st 1907, both towns amalgamated into Lake City with a population of 464 residents. In 1970, local developer Bob Dooley purchased land north of downtown for $1 million which he would use to create an elaborate water park called “Dooley’s Diversionary Park” which would include several amusement rides including a Ferris wheel and three waterslides with an operating height of . Dooley also built four homes onsite for himself and his wife Phyllis Dooley to operate as their summer home while they entertained guests at their water park during the colder months. The park opened in 1974 and quickly became one of Lake City’s most popular attractions drawing visitors from all over Central Florida Dooley died in 1980 but his wife continued operation until her death in 1984 before eventually selling the property to businessman dedicated to developing it into an upscale community known today as LakeCity Square LakeCity Square developed rapidly becoming one of Fort Myers Beach's fastest growing neighborhoods reaching its current level of development within only 10 years after being founded . Currently there are more than 2200 homes located throughout nine blocks bounded by 17th Street SW - 19th Street SW - 20th Street NW - Seminole Avenue NE - Third Avenue SE - Fourth Avenue SE with plans for even more growth on adjacent parcels still pending In 1992 The University Of Central Florida began offering undergraduate degree programmes at what would become known as Clarkson University Downtown Campus inside then-new Jack Dempsey Stadium across 17th Street SW from then-current LakeCity Square

Lake City is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,515 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Lake City" was given to it by General A.C. Smith on July 4, 1892 as part of his campaign for governor of Florida. Lake City is located on the southern outskirts of Hillsborough County and is bordered by St Petersburg to the south and Clearwater to the north. The first inhabitants of what would become Lake City were Seminoles who had been displaced from their original land near Fort Brooke during the Indian Wars of 1818-1819. Natives began moving into what would become Lakecity in 1892 when General A.C Smith named it after himself as part of his campaign for governor of Florida against incumbent John Swayne (son of Governor James Worthy). At that time there were no roads or settlements in present-day Hillsborough County and most people traveled by foot or horseback from Tampa or Clearwater to attend political meetings held at various locations around the state capital Tallahassee. In 1907, construction began on a railroad line between Tampa and St Petersburg which connected with existing lines in Jacksonville and Pensacola. This resulted in an influx of new residents and businesses into downtown LakeCity which thrived until World War II when downtown was destroyed by fire resulting from an overloading locomotive pine tree harvest machine called a “pine bomb” operated by local farmers Brown & Sons Company. AIE International Paper Company constructed a paper mill adjacent to current day Citrus Bowl Stadium which became known as "The Mill". During World War II, much production took place at The Mill due to its proximity to rationing areas and because it could provide employment for civilians while also manufacturing military supplies such as bombs, airplane wings and tanks under cover of darkness using secrecy techniques known as “black night drops”(later refined into supply drops). Today portions Of The Mill still stand abandoned although only one building remains completely enclosed within its walls - this building now serves as office space for local government officials responsible for managing municipal resources including water deliveries, trash collection etc.. After the war ended hostilities resumed between American forces occupying Japan control areas east OF Tampa Bay Area stormed American owned Japanese owned businesses along US 60 Corridor confiscating everything not needed soldiery/industrial items only leaving behind japanese made products with Korean names like Hana Foods Corporation still standing today despite being looted multiple times throughout history
Lake City was founded in 1824 by Captain George Walton and his wife, Maria. The town was named after the then-new Lake City on the St. Johns River. The first post office was established in 1825 and the first store opened in 1829. By 1840, the population had reached 1,200 and by 1850 it had grown to 3,000. In 1863, a railroad passed through the town and Lake City became an important transportation center for south Florida. It also became home to several schools and businesses until it was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
