Rockledge is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee–Ft. Walton Beach metropolitan area. The name "Rockledge" may come from the Rockledge Plantation on Jupiter Island which was founded in 1814 by Colonel James C. Richardson and his wife Lady Jane Austin. The plantation produced sugarcane and cotton until it was sold to American Sugar Refining in 1922. In 1929, Rockledge became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and four council members (two serving one-year terms). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,362 people, 553 households, and 384 families residing in the town. The population density was 476.2 people per square mile (221.5/km²). There were 604 housing units at an average density of 283.1 per square mile (111.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White alone, 0% Black or African American, 0% Native American, 0% Asian, 0% from other races, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3% of the population

Rockledge is a small town in southern Florida, located on the edge of the Everglades National Park. The town was founded in 1884 by J.P. Morgan and John Sutter, who named it for their farm that once stood there. At its peak, Rockledge had a population of about 1,500 people and was home to a post office, a bank, an iron works, a cotton gin and other businesses. After years of decline and subdivision, Rockledge regained some of its former glory as an agricultural center during the early 21st century due to advances in technology and agriculture. Today Rockledge remains an important cultural and economic center in southwestern Florida.
Rockledge was founded in 1917 by farmers led by J.B. Rockledge and his brother-in-law, W.C. Stephenson. The area now includes the city of Clearwater, Florida and parts of Stonington, Connecticut as well as the towns of Belle Glade, Fort Myers Beach, and Naples. In 1925 Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Jackie Robinson played his first game at Clearwater Municipal Stadium against Clearwater High School's varsity team. In 1962 the city renamed Clearwater Municipal Stadium in honor of Robinson and also unveiled a statue of him outside the stadium. He is also buried in Clearwater Cemetery next to his father John "Jock" Rockledge Sr., who played football for Stonington High School and Jacksonville State University before becoming an accountant and then a judge in central Florida
