Wilton Manors is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,565 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Broward County. The town was founded by Wilton Plantation owners John and Elizabeth Manors in 1902. John Manors had been born in 1853 in Gloucestershire, England. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida with his family when he was five years old and worked odd jobs to support them. In 1875, he married Elizabeth Whitehead and they raised their children near Jacksonville until 1883 when they moved back to Wilton Plantation where they remained until 1903. After John's death in 1907, Elizabeth continued to live on the property until her death in 1945. They were buried there together beside their son-in-law and daughter-in-law who also lived on the plantation during this time period; James Whitehead (1856-1943) and Evalyn Key (1858-1945). In 1902, William Hennigan purchased the property from John Manors' widow for $3500 cash only which included an enslaved woman named Nannie as part of the purchase price. Hennigan renamed Wilton Manor after his own plantation located near Wilmington Delaware which had been destroyed by a fire four years earlier while Hennigan was owner of that plantation - Wilton House & Plantation (now known as Colonial Williamsburg Museum). The manor house still stands today as a private home within walking distance of both its original location on State Road 622 east of downtown Wilton Mansions – one mile south from Interstate 95 – and current site upon which it stands adjacent to the McCarran International Airport off Old Florida Highway 4 miles west of I-95 exit 169A/US 1/Kissimmee Boulevardsouthwest from downtown Miami Beach The first post office called "Wilton" opened in 1903 under name "Manorsville". On October 15th 1905 mail service began between New York City and Miami Beach via train run by engineer Elijah Harry Sellers through Floridian Railway Station located northeast corner lot #2 lot #6 north side street steps northwest corner lot #1 due east corner lots fronting South Orange Blossom Trail intersection Lots 2 thru 5 are now occupied by homes Stables used for wagons storage hay stack corn cribs batteries etc...
