In 1835, Humphrey's son, Andrew Humphrey bought land adjacent to his father's property, which would later become Acworth. Andrew Humphrey began shooting animals for food on his property, and eventually developed a hobby of hunting deer himself. He also built a house on the property that is still standing today. In 1845, William Hightower founded Hightower Farms near Acworth. The farm was designed as an agricultural center for eastern Georgia; it was home to some of the first commercial crops grown in the area. Hightower started selling products from his farm by 1860, and by 1870 had become one of the leading farmers in central Georgia. He continued to grow crops into the 1920s; during that time he also developed a business selling ice cream from his farmhouse Dairy Queen). In 1924 he donated most of his farmland to Acworth City School District; since then the school has been located on part of his original farmhouse (now known as Old Mrs.) The township boundaries were widened starting in 1974 so that all buildings within Acworth Township are included within its limits regardless of where they may be located within individual residential blocks or neighborhoods.).

As Fort Pillow lay abandoned for years after its abandonment, souvenir hunters discovered artifacts from within including cannons and clothing from soldiers who had fought at Fort Pillow during the war.
