This man was James Robertson who recommended that the name be changed to “Augusta” in honor of Queen Victoria’s daughter whose birthday was on August 14th that year. By 1830, when Jackson became president of America he had decided that slavery would not be tolerated within his borders so he issued an Executive Order compelling all Native American nations east of Mexico to cede their land westward to make way for white settlement or face punishment under Ulysses S Grant’s Lincoln Administration! However Augustus remained unceded until 1865 when it finally came under federal jurisdiction following several unsuccessful attempts by Confederate General Robert E Lee to purchase it from its original owners! In 1840 Augustus passed through hands several times before arriving at its current location where it currently stands today as part of central Georgia! In 1851 a post office was established here and mail service continued until 1957; however most commercial activity took place outside the city limits until after World War II when Augusta began experiencing rapid growth due largely to its proximity to three large military installations: Fort Benning (Georgia), Dahlgren Air Force Base (Indiana) and Macon Army Air Field (Georgia). During World War II local businesses supplied much needed troops with food, clothing and munitions while also housing thousands more soldiers than necessary inside Fort Benning! After the war ended many jobs closed down leaving town struggling but soon resumed growth thanks in large part to Interstate 95 which skirts downtown just south of town! Today there are over 200 thousand residents living within spitting distanceof downtown Atlanta while numerous high-tech companies have relocated here during recent decades – promises which have yet to materialize! Today much like during its early years Augusta has been designated an “International Community Business District” due developments such as multiple MARTA stations just minutes away as well as numerous professional parks/sports complexes nearby totaling over 1 million sq ft!. Additionally many restaurants/bars/nightlife venues dotting Downtown Avenue making it easily accessible both day & night without having too far walk or bike from places you wantto go!
