Bainbridge, Georgia is an incorporated city in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 14,514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Bainbridge formed in 1892 when a group of farmers and businessmen decided to move their businesses to what is now Bainbridge Island in the Chattahoochee River system. In 1906, Bainbridge annexed land from Marietta and became a municipally chartered city. The first mayor of Bainbridge was W. J. Hickey and the first City Council was made up of seven men including four mayors until 1978 when one mayor resigned due to health problems; then five council members were elected at-large with three women on the council from 1978 until 1984 when all five seats were filled by male officers—the first time that women had been elected as municipal officers in any U.S.–based town or city outside Boston or New York City

Bainbridge, Georgia was founded in 1820 by James Bainbridge and his wife, Martha. It is a census-designated place (CDP) in Macon County, Georgia. The population was 5,839 at the 2010 census. The community takes its name from James Bainbridge who immigrated to America in 1819. Bainbridge is located on the Chattahoochee River about 15 miles west of Macon. The town first developed as a trading post along the riverbank where farmers could deliver goods to market. By 1830, Bainbridge had a hotel and tavern which became the center of local social life. In 1847, John Fenton purchased land adjacent to the town and began developing it into an agricultural community with hogs, chickens, and other livestock being raised. By 1850, Bainbridge had a school and two churches; oneMethodist and one Baptist. In 1870, when Atlantaetta was founded as the new capital of Georgia, Bainbridge became part of that city's industrial district; however, most of the industry ceased production after 1880 because of competition fromaleighand other cities in that area. In 1907–08 there were several floods which destroyed crops and caused loss of life both inside and outside the town; however these events did not dampen activity or cause abandonment of what would become known as "the bastion of growth" during this time period for Bainbridge residents. However by 1915 much damage had been done to both homes and businesses due to World War I-era bombing raids by American forces which also damaged infrastructure including bridges over the Chattahoochee River important for trade between Atlanta and Macon County A fire department was organized in 1922 following reports that fires occurred frequently near Bridgeport Road within town limits In 1941–42 there was an outbreak of war-time malaria among soldiers living within vicinity prior to their departure for combat areas During 1951–52 plans were made for development around present day intersection of SR 505 & US 421 called "Mackey Place" after then-mayor A C Mackey who spearheaded effort together with citizens Aldridge Wray & Bob McAllister to bring development forward . . .When Action Plan For Randolph Rd., just north side creek on 501E (now SR 525), failed due lack interest from property owners meeting there never happened even though city offered $5000 cash incentive .....
