Wilkinson's discovery led to the development of agriculture in Chamblee, and soon enough there was a thriving community of farmers and gunners based in this rural area. During World War I, ammunition demand soared as armies used more artillery and machine guns than ever before. Many industries sprang up around supply chains necessary for making ammo for these big guns. One notable example is J&P Gun Works in Chamblee – this company manufactured millions of rounds of ammunition for both Allied and German forces during World War I. After World War I ended, many people left the farming industry to start their own businesses. This migration created new opportunities for Ammo production in Chamblee – beginning with Sam & Jerry's Ammunition Company on Chapel Road in 1922. This company continued to produce quality ammo until 1974 when it merged with Brownells Incorporated to form Brownells/Ammunition Corporation (BA). BA still manufactures high-quality bullets today! The first gunpowder propellant was developed in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and John Dryden, two Englishmen who were working in France at the time. This propellant helped to fire cannonball after cannonball without any loss of powder or metal. soon thereafter, other countries began to develop their own types of artillery as well, which required new types of ammunition for them to function properly. In 1853, General James Besser set up a battery at Fort Donelson outside Chattanooga with cannons that could fire shell projectiles weighing up to 20 pounds each. This Garrison Battery became one of the most important factors in the Battle of Chickamauga (September 27–28, 1863), which saw Union forces defeat Confederate forces under General Sherman.
Chamblee is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Chamblee was founded in 1814 by Captain James Chalmers and his family. The town was named for General Andrew Chamblee who fought in the American Revolution. The first post office in Chamblee was established on December 22, 1814. The name of the town originates from General Andrew Chamblee who fought in the American Revolution and later became an Congressman from Georgia. Aftermath of the Revolutionary War left many veterans in search of new homes and businesses opportunities opened up throughout central Georgia as soon as they could be secured. On September 9, 1816, Captain James Chalmers donated land to form what would become known as Chamblee Township which sat along the Chattahoochee River east of today's intersection of US-1 and GA-1306/SR-2 (the present day intersection of I-285/I-105). The first school in what is now ChamBLEE Township was built on October 10th, 1816 by Mrs Wm Hennessey with help from local farmers and Methodist missionaries under instruction provided by Rev Dr John Wesley Powell who had just arrived from America after being appointed by President James Kenedy to look into moving westward through Central America following news reports that gold might be found there. When it opened for business only five students were enrolled including Mr Hennessey himself who served as teacher and principal for over 20 years until his death on January 6th 1865 at age 81 years old! In 1827 Fayetteville School District No 2 purchased land adjoining Mrs Hennessey’s school which closed down sometime after 1880 due to lack of enrollment or financial difficulties; however a plaque still remains near today’s corner of I-285 & SR-2 marking this former site! The original courthouse located on Daisy Road across from today’s Walmart has been replaced multiple times but remnants remain including two large columns next to current day US 1 & GA 1306/SR 2 which indicates it may have been used twice before its replacement! A more recent courthouse indicated below also operated though it may not have been operational during most all years since around 1970 when much newer construction took place adjacent to I 287 north almost to where Walton Street meets Interstate 285! From year 1870 until about 1930 when much newer construction took place adjacent to I 287 north almost to where Walton Street meets Interstate 285!, chamBLEE had its own post office functioning until 1935!!! What followed then was long period without any postal service!! Finally starting 1967 USPS started serving community again thru their branch office located off i 287 north near Walton street !! . Post Office reopened Jan 1975 !! . All these changes happened within a period OF ONLY 38 YEARS!!!!! This continues something like happening every 5 or 6 year although admittedly some harder changes take place such as elimination or reduction of certain services available!! Anyway lets move onto our topic here today shall we? During Reconstruction chamBLEE experienced tremendous growth thanks largely to work done by both federal agencies such as GEMA (now known as DoD) creating various industrial parks centered around downtown Chamblee while also providing jobs for many locals including firefighters, mechanics, etc.; additionally white flight began occurring beginning shortly after World War II ended spurring even more growth with African Americans moving out intoAtlanta en masse beginning in earnest during this time frame making education accessible becoming an increasingly important factor contributing significantly too continued economic development!! However despite all this good news things didn't always go smoothly due primarily TO CHAFFEY COUNTY'S OWN INCOMPETENCE IN ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND POWERS THAT GOVERN CHAMBLEE THROUGHOUT HIS OR HER ENTIRE AREA INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In 1814, a group of Americans formed the United States Rifle Association to promote rifle shooting as a sport. Ammunition became an important factor in this nascent country’s armed forces, with small arms being one of the most important arms on American soil. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guaranteed gun rights in America. This amendment specifically states: “No person … shall be compelled in any State to pay any Tax or Duty on Powder, Bullets, Arms or Ammunitions thereof which he cannot discharge without his own Consent; nor shall any Person be subject for the same offence to more than one punishment at least”. China is credited with being the first country to create a fully automatic weapon system – an automated gun that could fire rounds without user input. This machine gun was called Type 97 Mauser rifles and is considered one of China’s greatest achievements in international relations. In 1949, North Korea began producing their own version of this weapon – the Type 97K Kim Il Sung Machine Gun! This machinegun remains popular among Korean War veterans today! 1

Chamblee was founded in 1835 by John Chamblee and his wife, Nannie. The Chamblees were of English descent and came to Georgia from Yorkshire, England. They settled on a farm near the present day town of Chamblee. The first house in the town was built by John Chamblee and his family. In 1868, the Chamblees erected a home which still stands today, located at 601 Summer Street. On November 1, 1865, John Chamblee died at the age of 78 years. He is buried at Springdale Cemetery in Chattahoochee County. Mrs. Nannie Chamblee continued to live alone until her death in 1944. She is also buried there with her husband and four children: James (Jim) ChamBLEE, Ethel Mae (Tess) CHAMBLEE HUGHES, and Franklin Pierce (Frank) CHAMBLEE Jr..
