Gainesville, Georgia is a small town located in southeast Georgia. The population was 4,936 at the 2010 census. Gainesville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and has a large concentration of high-technology companies as well as medical and research institutions. The first people to live in Gainesville were Native American people who lived near the now known as Indian Road. In 1806, General James Wilkinson established a fort here to protect travelers on their way from Mobile Bay to Savannah. After Wilkinson's death, his generals John Schofield and Richard Taylor took control of this fortification which became known as Fort Atkinson after they took over command of the fortification in 1814. In 1819, Gainesville was chosen by Governor Thomas Jealous as site for a new courthouse which would beatter justice for all of northeast Georgia. This courthouse was completed in 1830 and served until 1859 when it was replaced by the current Courthouse building which is still standing today. The first schools were built here in 1825 with help from Mrs. Alexander Hoggart who donated land for one school district called Grady County School District No 2 (later renamed Gainesville School District). The first schoolmaster was Drury Cranch who taught students here starting on October 1,1826th before moving on to teach at Decatur High School where he served until December 6th 1865 when he moved on to teach at what is now Emory University starting on January 1st of that year. In 1850, Mrsgrady Countys First Female Teacher named Miss Lillie Woodruff taught here before she moved back east to teacher at Union College . In 1860 MrsGrady County Schools Second Female Teacher named Miss Harper started teaching here before she move away againometime later than 1870 but her name remains unknown . During these early years there were only 3 teachers total with no student support staff so much like today there weren't many things we could do like email or social media back then we had classes! In 1886, George Epps donated land for what is now University Drive which became known as Epps Terrace after George Epps himself died suddenay while visiting his family here during 1890-91 season when he suffered a stroke that caused him paralysis below his right eye resulting in him never being able to see properly again however he did manage to leave behind valuable possessions including furniture including an armoire with carved Corinthian capitals that once graced an old home north east corner lot across from Knoppers Ferry Park off Westboro Road near Rome Ford Cemetery today ( Map ). On November 5th 1889 Mr Rufus King opened up Gainsville's very first grocery store located just south side of present day Hartsfield-Jackson Airport off I-285/I-275 South Named "Gainesville Grocery" today this store continues operation under various names including King's MARKETPLACE Independent Grocery Store Inc since 1978 inside I-285/I-275 South & Weldon Road outside I-285 Airport boundaries etc.) soon followed by another store owned by J P Morgan located just west side of Chattahoochee River Bridge about two blocks south along US–441 Northnamed "J P Morgan's GAINESVILLE" open 24 hours per day 365 days per year until Pharmacy Mart closed its doors due mainlyto competition from Walgreens next door) finally Gapvilles leading druggist DRUGSTORE LOCATED ON NW SEAT OF HIGH SCHOOL DESIGNATED AS "GAPVILLES DRUGSTORE" IN 1984 OPENED BY DONALD WALKER JR., AFTER HIS MOTHER FOUND IT ON HER VACANT LOT HERE IN THE YEARs 1970s BEFORE THAT It should also noted that GaithersburgownedPARKSIDE PARK adjacent thereto played significant roleinthe growthofGAINESVILLEduring thoseearlyyears too!) Today we have multiple stores local & online plus restaurant(s) within walking distance!!! All kidding aside; GAINELSVILLE IS NOW A FANTASTIC COMMUNITY TO LIVE IN WITH ITS HUGE NUMBER OF LOYAL TRADE AND BUSINESS ENEMIES!!

It is the largest city in DeKalb County by population. The first people to live in what is now Gainesville were Native American. In 1801, General James Robertson and his party explored what would become Gwinnett County and found an area that would be perfect for settlement due to its natural resources including coal, iron ore, timber, water supplies and a few miles of navigable rivers. On April 12th, 1819 (the day after Georgia gained statehood), Captain John Gano signed a paper creating the town of Gainesville with two-thirds of the vote being cast at McConnell's Tavern on Peachtree Road near present-day Dougherty Stadiums football field. gainesville served as capital until December 25th of 1821 when Atlanta took over because Savannah had become too congested for businesspeople or politicians to travel long distances without endangering their political careers or lives (Curtis). In 1907, Mayor William Hartsfield moved from Savannah to take office in Gainesville which made him one of the most influential men in Gwinnett County history. He helped create many streets and landmarks within the city limits such as Dunwoody Boulevard (now known as Main Street) which he called "the Avenue of Progress" after an article about his efforts appearing in The Atlanta Journal on November 21st 1905; he also built Strollmere Golf Course onwhat is now Fourth Street between Ponce de Leon Avenue and Marshall Drive/ unbeknownst to most GA locals at that time it still remains one today! He also spearheaded legislation establishing Chattahoochee River Park which includes much important habitat for Delta smelt - an endangered species! Mayor Hartsfield died suddenly after serving only four years before being succeeded by Mayor Grady Judd who continued some major changes brought about by Mayor Hartsfield like erecting Dunwoody Boulevard through downtown along with new parks like Chattahoochee River Park! However even under Judd’s leadership there were still some issues faced within Gwinnett County including high crime rates during certain times periods not only because criminals could find easy prey but also because politics often took precedence over practicality which can be seen throughout our community today with all levels elected officials constantly pushing their own agendas instead of looking out for their constituents! Unfortunately these days many problems remain unaddressed such as lackadaisical street maintenance while gangs have taken up residence among us working together To provide lawlessness & chaos we must ask ourselves “What has Atlanta done for us lately?”
