Lilburn, Georgia is a small city located in the southeastern corner of Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 6,569 at the 2010 census. Lilburn has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years and has been called "The Athens of the South" due to its prominence in education and culture. In 1795, lawyer John Marshall married Katherine Swann in Lilburn. They had two children before moving to Savannah where they started a successful legal practice. In 1814 they became involved with Thomas Jefferson's second presidency when they traveled to Paris as part of his travelogue. After their trip they settled in Washington D.C., but returned home to start a new legal practice there in 1824 after he was elected President. They remained active until John Marshall's death in 1865 and Katherine died five years later at the age of 93%. After her death John Marshall began dividing their law firm among his children which continues today with daughter Anna (Marshall) Hull Thacher serving as Managing Partner and son-in-law Percy Thacher taking on most risk associated with management including capital projects outside of the family office model since Anna is now blind from an attack during World War II while Percival is still alive). His daughter Alice served as Secretary of State from 1979-1981 under Governor Jimmy Carter before becoming UPN’s primetime anchorwoman on WSBV Channel 2 NewsChannel 5 starting August 31st 1988 having clerked for then CBS Evening News anchorman Walter Cronkite during that time period also stinting as an Eyewitness News Reporter at KRLD ABC stations KLKN 8PM-11PM & KDTX 12AM-1AM). The history of Lilburn, Georgia begins with the European arrival in the area in the early 1800s. The town was founded by Cherokee people and developed as a trading post and agricultural center. After Union forces took control of Georgia in 1864, Lilburn became an important hub for Confederate forces during the Civil War. The town was sacked and burned by Union troops in 1865, but ultimately emerged from the war unscathed. In 1920, Lilburn incorporated as a city and quickly became one of the most vibrant communities in south Georgia. Today, Lilburn is an important cultural attraction and home to a variety of businesses and organizations.

Lilburn is located on the eastern edge of Augusta County. The first known inhabitants of what would become Lilburn were three families from South Carolina who settled there in 1798. They named their town "Lilburn" after General James O'Hara's plantation in that state. In 1811, John Broughton established a cotton gin near what is now Main Street and added to the community name "Lilburn" when he purchased land around it from Colonel Thomas Brownell for $1,000 cash and 10 negroes. He also built a courthouse and school house which remain extant today as part of the downtown core of Lilburn. In 1814, Daniel Webster became governor of Georgia and ordered Governor Nicholas Tryon to take possession of all Cherokee lands east of Warrior's Path without compensation to these Cherokees who had recently moved west into those same lands following Creek Removal (the forced removal of most Native Americans from their historic homeland in southeastern Alabama). Tryon refused to do so and set off into Cherokee country himself with only 500 men to try and assert his power over these recalcitrant tribesmen - an event which came to be called "The Battle Of White Mountain". A group led by Captain James Cook crossed the Pedernales River overland from Spanish Territory on May 25, 1794 en route towards Savannah with supplies for Lieutenant General Andrew Pickens' army besieging Fort Moultrie on Hilton Head Island; they encountered Indians along their way who killed five officers and 20 men before reaching safety at nightfall near present day Macon Township, Georgia Upon hearing about this event Governor Tryon issued a proclamation ordering all white people within 2 miles (3 km)of any Indian village or encampment prior to sunset upon returning home evening must leave their homes or face eviction; this order became known as The Know-Nothings'. The first handguns were created in 1857. The Colt revolver was the first handgun to be mass-produced and it became very popular. However, there were a few problems with this gun. First of all, the barrel had to be made long enough so that it could fit through a door crack, and secondly, the gun needed to be reliable so that people could use it safely.

Lilburn was founded in 1822 by a group of white men who named it for the swampy area near where they had been living. The town quickly became a center for cotton farming, and during the antebellum years it was one of Georgia's most important cities. Lilburn experienced dramatic growth during the late 19th century as a result of its status as an industrial center and its location on the Atlantic coast. In recent decades, however, Lilburn has undergone several changes that have caused some residents to QUESTION its authenticity as a historically significant community.

Lilburn, Georgia was founded in 1824 as a small settlement on the Chattahoochee River. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its location near the then-thriving cotton industry. By 1851, Lilburn had become an important community with a population of around 1,500 people.During the American Civil War, Lilburn served as a military outpost on the opposite bank of the Chattahoochee River from Atlanta. Despite being located less than two miles from Confederate forces and facing repeated shelling from their positions, the town managed to remain unscathed and only lost one resident to battle (a soldier who died while trying to cross). In 1865, afterAtlanta fell to Union forces, Lilburn reverted back into its original name - but by now it had become a ghost town.
