The Richmond Hill Police Department was established in 1892. One of the earliest officers to be hired was John W. Getchell, who served as a police officer and detective for over 20 years. In 1951, Detective Sergeant Leroy White became the first African American to serve with the department. Sergeant White's time with the department saw many changes including the introduction of a body camera program in 2003 and increased use of vehicle dash cameras in 2007. In 1976, Officer Harry Burkhardt joined the force and worked his way up through the ranks until he became an Assistant Chief in 2000. During his tenure as assistant chief, he developed and implemented a number of new policies and programs within the department including firearm confiscation policy which led to positive change within Richmond Hill Police Department firearms policy. When Mayor Dennis Ritchie took office in 2001, he appointed Officer Burkhardt as Deputy Chief effective January 1st 2002. From this position, Officer Burkhardt continued to develop new policies and programs within the department such as hate crime suppression which has led to an increase in prosecutions against hate crimes throughout Richmond Hill In 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Cook became The Commandant of The Richmond Hill Police Department effective July 1st 2013 pursuant to City Ordinance No.(11-2) . Lieutenant Colonel Cook is responsible for developing all policing strategies within The Richmond Hill Police Department while ensuring that all citizens are treated fairly while being charged with any criminal activity or behavior that could lead to issue with their law enforcement counterparts or city ordinances

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a conservative think tank that focuses on state and federal legislators shaping public policy. In the past, ALEC has helped to create laws in states such as Oklahoma and Texas that allow concealed carry without permits, expanded gun rights for convicted felons, and opposed bans on assault weapons. Since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012, ALEC has been working to pass a law allowing people with mental illness to be able to buy firearms. The bill was passed by the Alabama Legislature in February 2014 and is currently being considered by the Mississippi legislature. This bill would expand gun rights for those with mental illness even if they have not been convicted of any crimes, which breaks down traditionaloneries like due process. In March 2014, ALEC also came out against common school safety measures like background checks and metal detectors at schools. They argued that these measures would make it difficult for potential shooters to purchase firearms and were insteads proposed as an way to infringe upon Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. These examples alone show how far right wing extremists have come since the Sandy Hook shootings. It’s clear that there are still many people who don’t understand what it means when you take away someone’s civil liberties just because they may have some sort of mental health issue. It's important that we continue fighting back against these types of policies so that we can keep our communities safe from mass shootings like those experienced in Newtown or Sutherland Springs

In later years this growth spurt came to be known as "TheHill", due to its characteristic height relative to other parts of town (the highest point being Sandy Boulevard). In recent years there has been major redevelopment taking place around downtown including new housing developments and significant retail development throughout central business districts across metroAtlanta including Decatur/Highlands Park/Downtown Fultontown etc.. Most notably Midtown Center which has seen significant office conversions into residential buildings since 2007 giving rise to one or two high-rise blocks between Sandy Boulevard/US Highway 1W and Piedmont Avenue with street level retail up top including several popular restaurants like PF Changs etc... Downtown also hosts some events such as baseball games at Turner Field during springtime or art shows at New York Hall etc...
