By 1880s there were over 10 stores and 100 homes in Statesborough; businesses included two grocery stores and two general merchandise stores operated by GEOGRAPHY & GEODESIGN CO., STREET & STATEHOUSE CO., hardware store operated by WILLIAMS FOWLER CO., druggist JOHN MARTINSON & CO., school trustee DAVID PEARCE SCHOOL DISTRICT No 2 opened October 6th 1886 with nine students grades one through four located at 5th Ward Schoolhouse; fire destroyed building Dec 8th 1889 operating as First Baptist Church until damage done by termites which finished off business Apr 14th 1890 . In 1865, after the war ended, Statesboro reverted back to its original name: Statesboro. It has since experienced some growth and development over the years; including becoming home to several colleges and universities as well as an active community presence.
