The first permanent settler in what became Eagle was John Lacey, who arrived in 1875. He built a logging camp on the banks of Clearwater River and named it after his home state of Maine. The town name originated with a post office that was established there in 1877. At its peak, Eagle had a population of 1,500 people and consisted of log cabins, stores and an Opera House. In 1902, the Post Office moved to its present location south of I-8 within walking distance of all the businesses and services that made Eagle such an important community during its early years. In 1916 David Sorenson founded the Sorenson Grain Mill which produced flour for local grocery stores and later exported to other countries. The mill closed in 1984 but has been preserved as a historical landmark by David Sorenson descendants through their company First American Corporation (FAC). Today FAC operates the mill as part of a Visitor Center complex which also includes several buildings from different periods including Fort Keogh barracks from 1890-1892, Pee Wee's restaurant from 1924-1927 and court house from 1907-1910. A large addition to FAC’s Visitor Center Complex were two residential units called “The Towers” which sat atop huge concrete pads adjacent to the millrace until demolished in 2013 due to code violations; these structures are still visible as part ofFac’s landscape today (shown below). Eagle is a small town in Butte County, Idaho, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Eagle is located on the Snake River, east of Boise. The town was founded in 1907 by John Ellington and erected a post office in 1909. It was named for the Bald Eagles which frequent the area. The first school was built here in 1911 and it served grades one through five until 1954 when it closed due to budget cuts. A new school opened in 1957 and continued serving grades six through twelve until 1992 when it too closed because of budgetary constraints. In that year, a new elementary school opened with students from nearby Gardiner and Northglenn schools. The current high school (grades ninth through twelfth) opened its doors in 1993 after years of planning and construction by the community-based group Eagle Valley Schools Incorporated Ltd.. Eagle has been home to several businesses over the years: Horseshoe Saloon & Grill operated from 1965-1969; American Dairy Products Co., a coke bottler, operated from 1971-1977; Western Ski Shop operated from 1978-1982; Erie Tool Works operated from 1984-1988; Mr. Waffle House open since 1990s; and finally, Enterprise Rentals Inc., which operates as an apartment complex since 2001 In 2007, Eagle had an estimated population of 2128 people making it the smallest city or town in Butte County by population size
Eagle was founded in 1902 by W.J. Eagle and his wife, Nettie. The city was named after the eagle that is found in the area. The eagles are known for their courage and strength and this name stuck to the city. In 1912, Eagle became a town and was renamed after it.
