The post office was established at Post Falls in 1878, and the town of Post Falls was founded in 1903. The population of Post Falls increased rapidly during World War I, due to the large influx of soldiers and their families who were stationed at nearby Fort Hall Army Base. The town developed into a small but growing city after the end of World War II, with its growth spurred by the development of federal housing projects and other economic opportunities. In 1951, Post Falls became an incorporated city under state law, which helped it keep up with larger cities throughout Idaho. The city has seen increasing population density over recent years, resulting in significant infrastructure needs such as new streets and sidewalks, as well as new public services such as libraries and parks.
