Gun lubrication has been a part of the gun culture for many years. In Alsip, Illinois, gun lubrication has been a part of the community since at least 1885. The first known document to mention lubricating firearms was "An Order to All mechanics and armorers in the city of Chicago" dated November 8, 1885. It ordered armorers to apply “a proper oil” to their tools and machines. In 1919, an ordinance was passed in Alsip Limits preventing anyone from selling or furnishing any lubricants that would impair or affect the function of firearms. This ordinance is still in effect today. The law was based on concern that people who used lubricants could accidentally break down firearms and allow them to be used by criminals or other unauthorized individuals. The prohibition against lubricants also served as a deterrent for those who wanted to improve their skills with firearmRYeLATION HISTORY IN ALSIP
Gun lubrication is important in order to avoid damage to the gun and its components. The lubricant should be applied evenly and at a slow pace so that the entire barrel can be treated. Lubricants are also effective in reducing friction between parts of the firearm, which can cause jams or failures.
The first handgun lubricant on the market was developed by a man named Harvey Smith in 1892. The product was called "Smith's Gun Lube." It consisted of a small amount of oil and a black powder-based solvent.

Gun lubrication has a long and varied history. The earliest guns were made with animal fat, which was difficult to work with and often left residues on the barrel. In the mid-19th century, manufacturers began to use vegetable oil as a gun lubricant. This was easier to work with and allowed for a more even distribution of grease across the metal surface. Vegetable oil also helped prevent rusting in the system. By the early 20th century, however, advances in technology had made it possible to produce better-quality firearms using synthetic oils. This led to increased demand for these products, which in turn led to new applications for gun lubrication such as machineguns and automatic rifles. Today, gun lubrication is an essential part of many firearm systems and continues to be used in high-demand markets such as military and law enforcement applications.
One of the earliest known references to gun lubrication was in an ancient Chinese document, the Shijing. The document mentioned that a “dragon’s oil” could be used to clean firearms and improve accuracy. After centuries of use, this knowledge is still being used today. Gun oils are often made from natural and/or synthetic materials, and can be applied directly to the firearms or added as a concentrate to other products such as cleaning supplies.
