Arlington Heights, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 64,912 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and was annexed into the city of Chicago on January 1, 2019. The history of shooting target holders begins with early settlers in Arlington Heights who would take to the hills to shoot arrows at game brought over by Native Americans. In 1857, John H. Neely founded Neely's Shooting Gallery in what is now known as the Neely Building on North Halsted Street in Arlington Heights; he became one of the first shooters in Chicago. In 1861 when Abraham Lincoln was born, his father’s land grant from Congress provided for a rifle range and pistol range within the City limits of Chicago on Wabash Avenue near present-day Fullerton and Pulaski Streets; both ranges were used by private individuals until 1875 when they were leased to Emanuel Larkin (1829-1910) for $1 per year which he kept until 1917 when they were taken over by Armour & Co., which operated them until 1953 when they were sold to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sargent (1901-1984). In 1924 Mr. Sargent donated all but four courses of ammunition to Armour & Co.; these courses still remain available today through their “Target Practice Course” located adjacent to their main building at 111 South Dearborn Street corner with Michigan Avenue where members can shoot against targets dating back to 1865 “for fun only”! In 1952 MrSargent also donated an entire arsenal including twenty two rifles (six Model 1895s), eleven shotguns (eight pump shotguns), five revolvers (.38 Special/.357 Magnum) and three pistols (.45 ACP/.40 S&W) - this donation forms part of Armour &Co.'s collection currently exhibited inside their Main Building since 1974! It should be noted that this gift does not include any targets or firearms mementos as it was specifically Hughes' wish that all items donated should be permanently displayed within armour co.'s museum fieldhouse opposite Halsted St./Fullerton St., rather than stored away indoors! Some interesting facts about this period are that Harry Sargent began donating these items outside his home on Fullerton Street just east of State Street during World War II so as not affect traffic patterns on Halsted Ave.; after hostilities ended he moved all donations inside his home again during its conversion into a museum starting in 1984! In total Harry Sargent has given more than 4500 pieces of equipment/ammunition donation ranging from bows and arrows throughout military models up through high end modern sporting rifles like those made by Remington Arms Company!! Today marks 100 years sinceArmour &co.'s guns went into storage - much love hath been bestowed upon these fine old relics!!!

The original target holders were made from heavy logs and used to shoot at a range on the edge of town. The Germans soon abandoned their Shooting Towers due to their high cost and lack of accuracy. In 1905, a man named Harry Hirsch built the first indoor shooting range in the city. This range was located on Chicago Avenue near Palmer Street. Hirsch purchased one hundred concessionaires who would feed and fire shots at his range from dawn to dusk. His range became very popular among locals and visitors alike. In 1920, Mr. Edwin Aiken opened his own indoor shooting Range on Grand Ave in Arlington Heights which proved to be very successful. The popularity of this range led to other businesses starting up throughout the city such as Mr. Kapp's Camera Shop, Greeting Cards Ltd., The Shooting Gallery, & More which all sold targets and shot baskets at their respective locations until 1978 when they all closed down due to economic conditions. In 1978, two new companies started up in Arlington Heights; United Firearms Incorporated (UFI) which manufactured targets for home use and Targetmaster Corporation which began selling outdoor targets outdoors for people to shoot at during summertime in addition to selling ammunition and firearms products inside Mr. Aiken'srange from 1980-1983 when it was taken over by National Sporting Goods Warehouse (NSW).
