Bartlett was platted in 1837 by Elias Bartlett, a surveyor who also named it for his father, John Bartlett. The town was organized as a village in 1879. It became part ofChicago on February 15, 1898. The current mill complex and other buildings were built between 1914 and 1916 by J.P. Morgan & Co., which operated the flour mill until 1978 when it closed down due to low profits and competition from larger mills in the area. In 1918 Bartlett had its first post office and library with Wm Hyneman as librarian; these structures still stand today outside of the village limits within Municipal Park (qv). In 1941, Bartlett had its first telephone exchange with Northwestern Bellhops operating out of an old garage adjacent to the high school (now demolished). In 1951–1953 there were two small stores located near Depot Road and US Highway 41 before industrial development began moving into what is nowbartlett: First came Rexall Drug Company followed by several large manufacturing plants such as Studebaker Motors, Armour Rubber Works and MetLife Life Insurance Company before finally being surpassed by heavy industry during the late 1960s when steel production increased around Joliette Lakeipment Yards project nearby that has propelled bartlett's growth ever since! Bartlett, Illinois is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,662 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bartlett has been called "the little town that could" and is home to two parks- one named after General George Washington and another named for Abraham Lincoln. The first settler in Bartlett was John Barton in 1819. He bought 160 acres (72 hectares) of land from the government for $4 per acre. The first school in Bartlett was built on this property in 1836. In 1839, Mr. Barton donated a plot of land to the Methodist Church for use as their pastor's house and churchyard. In 1840, he also donated 100 acres (40 hectares) of his farm to the community for use as a public square or ground for cockfights and other agricultural activities until it was purchased by the village trustees in 1865. Barton Place still stands today as a beautiful contributing property to Bartlett Village, which evolved from its original incarnation as an unincorporated community served by three GIs during World War II: Sergeant First Class Eugene Jolasiewicz Jr., Captain Leonard Poindexter and Lieutenant Jack Doherty who manned three machine guns along with twenty-six men while they patrolled the shores of Lake Michigan providing cover fire against German submarines operating nearshore; Lieutenant Commander Byron Saylor; Ensign Tom Snyder attended daily briefings on surface missiles over open water at Pier 54 where he handled torpedo control duties with then LtCdr Robert Crippen Torpedo Officer School; Petty Officer First Class Jerry Neuman supervised all loading/unloading operations aboard USS Quincy port side during 3 months long campaign dubbed Operation Neptune's Spear which culminated with enemy ship surrender off Normandy Beach June 8 1944 Today there are over 1,500 residents living within walking distance of each other including many businesses that have grown since September 11th 2001 when terrorist attacks devastated New York City and neighboring areas including restaurants such as Dunkin' Donuts & Starbucks located just blocks away from One America Trade Center bombing site; antique stores such as Tiffany's gift store adjacent to post office which reopened following Katrina damage; art galleries such as Museum Of Fine Arts IL #2 across street from library frequented by locals & visitors alike popular destination for family photos etc.; several breweries - notably Pabst Brewing Company - recently opened up shop within walking distance while several new high-end restaurants have sprung up like Sloppy Joe's BBQ situated right next door to FedEx Office complex housing numerous international brands including Burger King US inside an underground mall beneath Sears Tower complex complete with subterranean parking garage accommodating more than 2000 cars overnight); main shopping center consisting of several anchor stores plus additional smaller stores throughout village offering a variety of services including dry goods, gasoline pumps etc.; recent addition is Target Supercenter adjacent to Community Bankruptcy court building serving local residents who continue to bank there even though chain store closed down prior to bankruptcy sale late last year It should be noted that although annexation into Cook County took place on December 14th 1900 through legislation sponsored by Congressman Amos Keyes,[1] most villages continued thro
