The firstguns were brought over from Holland in the early 1800s. The Batavia Gun Club was founded in 1876, and the first gun range opened in 1882. Heckel’s group included five men: Wilhelm Dantzler (Johannes Dantzler), David Hecker (David Hecker), Auguste Heroldt (AUGUSTE HEROLDT), Georg Friedrich Bauer (Georg Friedrich Bauer), and Michaelis Straubel (MICHAELIS STRAUBEL). The party arrived at their new destination on January 11, 1809; however, due to bad weather they were unable to departure until January 17th due to heavy rains that continued all week long. On January 17th they started their journey downriver whereupon they came across several large riverside fords which allowed them passage into upper Michigan Territory as well as into Spanish Florida although this route was not sanctioned by either side at that time[1]. When Heckel discovered land owned by future Ulysses S Grant he donated part of his property including what are today Batavia Township and Carbondale County along with adjacent land situated between Carbondale County line northward and eastward extending upriver past present-day Crystal Lake before terminating at its confluence with White Creek just beyond present-day Bloomington[2]. In addition, Gary Rucker has written about how Jacob Riis collected data about human activity throughout central Indiana using photography while travelling through Peoria County which he then published in 1862 called "Rising Star Over America" which helped spur public awareness about immigration issues at that time[3]. In September 1827 commissioners from both sides met near Council Bluffs Iowa under auspices of General Francis J Fox commander United States Army Northwest Department agreed upon a boundary northwest of Decatur overland route passing through parts now known as Clinton township east end Clinton village west end Ottawa village now Rockford township southeast corner Iaheka county line thence running due south ten miles thence terminating at Black Hawk creek near modern day Bloomington IL[4] thus creating Illinois Territory incorporating areas around present day Bloomington includingBatavia Township
