Beach Park was founded in 1868 by John D. Rockefeller and his bride, Emma Goldman. The town was named after the sandbars on the beach where they first set up shop as merchants. Beach Park's economy depended heavily on its location at the mouth of the Raccoon River which made it a valuable port for shipping goods from Illinois to Michigan and Wisconsin. In 1916, Beach Park became the first municipality to be incorporated within Chicago and it continued to thrive until the early 1970s when a number of factors including crime rates and public access to transportation led to its decline.

The land that would become Beach Park was originally part of what is now Springfield. In 1853, representatives from nearby Belleville voted to incorporate as a village and named it after their beach on the Illinois River. On February 17, 1854, Belleville's first municipal election was held and the village incorporation was ratified with an overwhelming vote. By 1870, there were only 121 residents living in Beach Park Village. However, since then its population has steadily grown to over 1,800 today! Most notably due to its close proximity to Chicago and other big cities around it, Beach Park has seen a great deal of development over the years – from homes for servants during World War II to more recent buildings like restaurants and stores that have been central parts of the community’s economy for many years now! There are also several beaches within walking distance of Beach Park – perfect for swimming or sunbathing! There are also plenty of parks and playgrounds available for kids to enjoy while they play outside! In addition to all this wonderful infrastructure however, one of Beach Park’s biggest assets is its friendly community spirit – which continues to grow despite some tough times throughout history!
