Belvidere is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Belvidere is one of four towns in Kane County that are part of the Chicago Park District. Belvidere was first settled in 1836 by Norwegian immigrants who named it after their home island of Vidi (today's HV71). The first post office was established in 1837 and the first stores opened in 1840. The early settlers were farmers with a few lumber businesses among them. By 1881, Belvidere had five schools, two churches and a hotel. After World War I, when America entered into World War II and industrial production increased, many people left for work in factories or other places outside of Illinois; however, some kept their homes and businesses until the late 1940s when they were destroyed by fire or neglect. In 1951-1955 three new high school buildings were constructed on land east of town which had been donated by John Witherspoon to be used as an open air school district; these buildings remain standing today as both local history museums and public education institutions for 4th through 8th graders today. In 1965-1968 two new elementary schools were built on land west of town which had also been donated by John Witherspoon to become an open air school district; these buildings still stand today as local history museums and public education institutions for 3rd through 5th grades today. Finally, between 1978-1981 an all-purpose stadium/ multipurpose arena was built south of town to replace the old gymnasiums which no longer functioned due to lack of use or oxidation from years of abuse from students; this building remains standing today as the only municipally funded sports complex west of Chicago now used primarily for concerts and other events like wrestling matches etc.; currently it serves as home field advantage during NCAA college basketball tournaments held there yearly since 2009! Today Belvidere has a vibrant downtown core with several restaurants including Zingerman's Deli & Brewery (formerly known as Harry Donahue's), Paddy's Eatery & Grille (formerly known as Joe's Pizza), Chop House Grill & Sports Bar ( formerly known as Tom Sawyer's Tavern), Italian Coffee Company & Italian Bakery (both located inside The Gilded Cage restaurant chain), Easy Tiger Chinese Buffet (currently closed) - all within walking distance from each other; movie theaters such as Regal Cinemas across the street from Town Hall Mall - showing latest releases nightly plus numerous independent films released over year aroundtown every weeknight; excellent nightlife featuring live music at various venues throughout downtown cores weekend nights especially during July/August weekends when attendance jumps up significantly due to "Downtown summerfest" event taking place outdoors daily adjacent to library next door starting about 10am...etc etc etc...it really doesn't get much better than this does it?!!

Today, Belvidere is home to several businesses including two banks, three restaurants/cafés, two medical offices/ clinics, two churches (one Catholic and one Protestant), four bars/nightclubs (two predominately gay-oriented but includes an abstinence-only abstinence program), five schools (four elementary school grades through high school; one middle school; one high school), seven library branches (three public with over 200 holdings; four private with over 350 holdings) and five parks (two municipal properties - Forest Park; Oneonta Park - which hosts both Hockey Day Camp and summer concerts on Stagecoach amphitheater each year while also hosting various family events such as picnics); seventeen full-time residents and six seasonal workers who provide essential services including lawn care, grocery shopping, staffing Hospice of Northern Illinois' Care Unit during its annual Medical Conference weekend fundraiser as well as providing non-profit fundraising services for numerous charities throughout McLean County every year. Belvidere's rich history can be found within its many cultural attractions such as its primary municipally owned park which encompasses both Forest Park -home of Stagecoach Amphitheater where popular music concerts are held each summer along with other family events like picnics -and Oneonta Park where various summer concerts are staged annually on Stagecoach amphitheater . Additionally some interesting items that have been preserved or still remains from this time include: A blacksmith shop operated by John Daugherty who made alloys for cannons during the American Civil War.; A gristmill originally run by James Caird that processed cornhusks into flour; Two historic homes now used primarily for storage after being abandoned due to negative age changes.; A water tower built around 1875 that still sits today unused inside Municipal limits.; An old printing press that served newspapers out of town until it finally went out of service circa 1960.; A courthouse completed in 1865 which housed court sessions until 1930 when it burned down ; As well as many more items not mentioned here but that would be worthy of mention including: Four wells drilled near present day Belvideere Village which supplied water for village buildings back then., An early steam locomotive currently stored outside Municipal boundaries., Many automobiles were manufactured locally starting with Ford models before moving up through Chevrolet , Mercury , Plymouth .....the list goes on!
