Belvidere, Illinois is a community located in the far northcentral portion of the United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Belvidere began as an agricultural village on a bend in the Fox River near what is now known as Cicero. In 1837, John Stephenson opened a flour mill here and named it for his birthplace, Belvidere, Italy. The village grew rapidly and by 1857 had a population of 2,500. A post office was established in 1858 and quickly became one of the most important in town. By 1870, Belvidere had become an incorporated city with a population of 10,000. The growth of Chicago led to heavy investment in railways here; by 1900 Belvidere's wealth was estimated at $150 million dollars ($ million today). However, despite this prosperity some residents boycotted city services because they felt that their taxes were not being fairly distributed. This resistance caused some major problems for Belvidere during World War I when resources were scarce and shipping delays resulted in high prices for food products exported to Europe. In 1922 City Council decided to annex adjacent unincorporated communities (the so-called "New Communities") which had joined city limits since 1919 without voter approval or consent; these annexations created tension between those who wanted autonomy and those who thought their rights should be fully respected by both cities. Thereafter New Communities frequently complained about how much more powerful and influential than they were their colleagues on City Council while also claiming that they did not have enough access to services or benefits enjoyed by other citizens within city limits (e.g., free parking). However after years of protests from New Communities against council decisions (including several successful lawsuits), Mayor Richard Juhl finally agreed to change zoning laws so that all citizens would have equal access to public transportation - something many New Community leaders had long advocated for - although there continue to be areas where few or no people use public transportation due to poverty or lack thereof available within city boundaries even though cars are allowed inside them! During World War II many residents left for military service but when hostilities ended many returned home and businesses closed down due to shortages caused by wartime rationing restrictions; however some new businesses started up immediately once hostilities ceased including one called "Families Coffee" which served fresh coffee made just for families during wartime! Belvideres economy slowly recovered following war although various regulations made it difficult for small businesses continued blocking access to credit; nevertheless Garden District grocery store remains one of town's most popular tourist attractions still providing quality groceries at low prices year round! Today Belvideere has seen rapid growth again with recent official estimates placing its population over 11 thousand including nearly 4 thousand millennials (!), making it one of fastest growing communities across North America according as well as among top U S Cities when measuring “Cities With More than 11 Thousand Residents” between 2000-2010 !!!!!

Belvidere is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It was incorporated on July 1, 1874, from the merger of two small villages: Belvidere and Bellefontaine. The population was 927 at the 2010 census. Belvidere is located in east-central Cook County on the north side of the Chicago River. It shares borders with neighboring towns of Plainfield to the south and Westchester to the west. According to the 2010 census, Belvidere has a total area of , of which (or 98%) is land and (or 2%) is water. Belvidere's history begins with rudimentary transportation options given its location on a river crossing just northeast of downtown Chicago. The first organized settlement in what would become Belvidere was made up of families who arrived from Rockford in 1837 during the Northwest Indiana Land Rush looking for new home land after being driven out by Native American groups. They named their new village Bellefontaine after one of their homes that had burned down while they were away prospecting in northwestern Indiana. In 1848, following Indian Wars fought between General Anthony Wayne's army and Myron Caughn's band of Shawnees, settlers began moving into what would become Belvidere from surrounding villages including Plainfield and Westchester due to religious tensions stemming from Methodism finding support among some Native Americans over Catholicism living nearby. In 1849, when an Act was passed providing for township formality within Cook County – as opposed to earlier rural hamlets where individuals acted as their own governments – Bellefontaine became part of what became Addison Township; followed by Belleville in 1850 and finally by Belvideere on July 1st 1874 when it merged with Plainfield Township forming what is now known as Cook County
