The Carol Stream Rifle Company was founded in 1855 by William H. and Mary A. Slattery. The company manufactured rifles, pistols, shotguns, and other firearms. The Slattery family continued to run the business until 1916 when it was sold to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company.
Carol Stream is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name of the town comes from Carola and Stream. The first people to settle in what is now Carol Stream were two families who came overland from Pennsylvania about 1798. They built a log cabin on the banks of the stream near present-day West Side Highway and Main Street. The original settler's name was unknown, but it is thought that they may have been named for Caroline of Hesse (1685-1746). According to one account, when their cabin burned down in 1814, four of their children ran away with one of the family's cows and took refuge among some trees near where West Side Highway now stands. From this location they continued to live until 1827 when they moved again, this time to a site on Page Road between West Side Highway and Clinton Avenue. In 1828 three brothers—John P., Joseph B., and Ebenezer F.—set out from Carbondale on horseback looking for land that would become Carol Stream. After traveling for several days they arrived at what is now North High School which had been donated by John P.'s father-in-law Aaron Burr. They began clearing land and started building homes around 1830; John P.'s home still stands today inside the high school limits. In 1831 John P.'s brother Ebenezer F., along with his wife Rebecca (1802-1881), had a child who survived infancy but died shortly after birth due to disease contracted while living in Ohio: Charles Athey (1831–1915). In 1834 or35 seven families — including those from Carbondale — gathered at North High School under the leadership of Reverend Amos Morse because there was no other school in sight suitable for their purposes east of South Holland avenue on Chicago’s south side. By 1850 all but five farms within half a mile of where North High School now stands were developed as single family homes; halfway between main street corner current day First Avenue & Wabash River Drive lies an old farmstead called “Graniteville” which formed part of this early development pattern according to Drury Mapping Company records dating back to 1870–71 grandparents included as well as parents Revolutionary War veteran Captain James Kieftman also known as Joe King born March 25th 1759 died December 12th 1865 married Deborah Haynes daughter October 10th 1800 married Zenobia Thomas widow November 5th 1796 both located just outside modern day Bloomingdale IL however all these locations are open public view through city property owner dedication plaque above sidewalk entrance…the only place you can find them today located right off IH 95 about 2 miles west just past Addison Hills Rd exit off IH 95

Carol Stream is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,582 at the 2000 census. The name of the town was given to it by General George Washington and his wife Martha Custis Washington in honor of their daughter-in-law Caroline (1768–1837), who married Captain John Marshall Steele of Carol Stream. She had been born in Charles Town, Virginia. The first post office was established in 1825 and the first store opened in 1830. The village was platted on November 15, 1836 by James Fenton and other early promoters of the town site. On December 26, 1838, voters approved a charter for a school district which included Carol Stream. In 1865, when Illinois became a state and Carol Stream became its capital city, the new state government moved its seat from Springfield to Carol Stream; this led to the nickname "The City of Progress." In 1903 there were 893 residents in Carol Stream and 1,527 residents in Kane County as a whole. By 1920 there were 3,581 residents living within one mile (1 km) of each other in Carbondale alone; this increased to 6,513 by 1940 when Kane County annexed part of Carbondale into its jurisdiction. During World War II many men from CarolStream worked as military personnel with various organizations including the Navy and Army Air Forces; some continue to do so today as local veterans organizations such as Veterans Affairs Memorial Park or American Legion Post #32634). There are also several businesses that have been founded specifically around military or veteran involvement including Stormy's malt shop which has been open since 1946 and BAE Systems Defense Services Inc., which has an office on Park Road since 1992.
