A few years ago, I moved to Carol Stream, Illinois. It was a bit of a surprise to find that there wasn't much opticalhistory here - until I started looking for vintage components from local stores and found some really interesting pieces. One of the earliest examples of architectural architecture in Illinois was built by Alfred H. Smith in 1892. At the time, Optical Instrument Corporation was one of the leading manufacturers of optical equipment and parts. They produced everything from eyeglasses to microscope slides (and other scientific equipment). One of their products, the Aperture Meter, is still in use today! The first computer generated image ever created was done on an Aperture Meter in 1952 by John McCarthy at Illinois Institute of Technology - it's now part of the University Museum at Chicago! In 1969, The University of Texas at Austin made an impact with their creation of the first digital camera! They used Aperture Meters to generate images for various uses such as photography and video recording.

Carol Stream is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Carol Stream was incorporated as a village on December 20, 1892. On April 3, 1919, it became an incorporated city. On October 15 of that year, it merged with the neighboring village of Arlington Heights to form the new city of Carol Stream. At its peak in 1990, it had a population of 11,500. In 2002-2003 there were rumours that the City Council would make a decision to close down all but one business in town due to budget problems and increasing competition from suburban areas; however this never happened and the only business closed down was a restaurant which employed about 30 people when it closed down citing financial reasons unrelated to town government finances. The main industries in Carol Stream are education and health care services. There are several hospitals located in town including Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center as well as two schools: Holy Cross Catholic School District No 8A (grades 7-12) and La Salle Academy (grades 1-6). One other major industry is research and development taking place at Illinois Technology Park located just outside of town limits near Rockford Hills. One of the earliest forms of optical accessories was eyeglasses. Glasses were used in a variety of ways to improve vision, including seeing farther, better ophthalmic adaptation, and reducing glare. The first effective glasses were made from a type of glass that could be cut into smaller pieces and then glued to the face. These early glasses had poor vision quality because they did not correct for eye movements and caused glare from bright light sources. In 1821, an American scientist named Benjamin Franklin developed a device called an opera glass which corrected for eye movements and allowed people to see clearly even in direct sunlight. In 1853, Pierre-Simon Laplace developed what is now known as the Laplace equation which explained how waves propagate through fluids such as water or air. This gave scientists the idea to create lenses by aligning different facets of a mirror so that light can pass through them with maximum efficiency. The use ofsunglasses has continued throughout history due to their convenience and ability to protect our eyes against sun exposure. Sunglasses have come in many shapes and sizes over the years including corrective lenses, sunglasses with polarized lenses, reading sunglasses, safety goggles, contact lens shields, facial masks/filters/sunglasses (including prescription sunglasses), baseball caps/caps with spikes on the front for protection againstsunglasses being pulled off during athletic activity or when driving (which is why some baseball caps are also equipped with reflective surfaces), sunglass holders/cases/holders for sunglasses while on trains or buses etc., aviator frames compatible with standard contact lens systems along with various lens coverings options like clear plastic wrap around film types or anti-fog films etc.).

In 1922, he also invented the crescent moon telescope. This technology allowed astronomers to view objects close to Earth as if they were on a large Telescope.
When Cook County was organized in 1821, one of the first tasks on the new government's agenda was to define boundaries for the newly created county. This effort led to the creation of what is now Carol Stream and other adjacent townships. Carol Stream owes its beginning to a dispute between two families over who would get to build a road through their land. The family that got the road won, but because they were so influential in local politics, they soon realized that they needed someone else's help to keep it open. So, they hired an experienced contractor - John Larkin - and he built a dirt road from Carol Stream all the way up to Glen Ellyn. From there, things began happening quickly. By 1829, Larkin had started selling oil rights off his land in present-day Glenview and neighboring townships. Soon enough, he had developed some significant properties in this area – including Carol Stream – and he became one of Illinois' leading landowners. Larkin also played an important role in shaping later Illinois history. He helped create the state's first congressional district and served as its first senator (1838-1841). Additionally, he helped found both Chicago and Milwaukee – two of America's largest cities at that time – and is credited with helping make these cities into powerful economic forces within their respective regions. Today, Carol Stream remains an important community within Cook County due to its strong ties to businesses and its location within easy reach of many major metropolitan areas across North America. In addition, thanks to Larkin's legacy, it has become something of a national landmark for early 20th century American industry development in this part of Illinois."
