Mikita's playing career spanned over 26 years and he is considered one of the most accomplished players ever to represent Kane County. A park located near where he once lived now features an ice cream shop called "Stan's".

The ridge was created when a series of hills were terraced to provide farmland for humans and their animals in the early 1800s. Today, Chicago Ridge is a popular spot for retirement homes, private schools, and businesses. The first settlers in what would become Chicago Ridge were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1795. The area was part of the Dutch colony of Holland until it was taken over by England in 1802. In 1812, following the Battle of Yorktown, Illinois became United States territory. As part of this new state, responsibility for Chicago Ridge passed from Dutch to American hands. In 1825, John Hennepin donated land to form Chicago Heights that included present-day Chicago Ridge. This land had been donated by Hennepin after he sawed down trees along State Street so that they could be used as posts for fences around his farmsteads on the hilltops aboveareas he owned (). Over time more and more people bought or leased land from Hennepin at various points along State Street between Harlem Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard (). The first house built on what would become Chicago Ridge was called "Herschel's Hill" due to its founder's purchase thereof in 1830 (). By 1840 there were 10 houses located on what are now Glencoe Drive (north), Harlem Avenue (south), Berwyn Avenue (west), Addison Road (east), Jerusalem Road (southwest) and Grosvenor Place (northeast). At this time residents primarily worked or lived close to their farms while attending local public schools (). By 1860 there were 300 residents living on what are now Glencoe Drive (), Harlem Avenue (), Berwyn Avenue (), Addison Road (), Jerusalem Road () and Grosvenor Place (). These residences included many large families whoowned several plantations scattered around Cook County () including Mount Zion Plantation (); Deerfield Plantation (); Mount Hope Plantation (); Snelling plantation (); Knowles plantation (); Harvey plantation ()); Duke plantation ()) . Most landowners also rented out parcels () some reaching up to half a mile wide () for agriculture or other purposes such as fencing off woods or farming fields (). This period during which property owners operated small plantations with individual tenants represents one stoplight moment in history where many changes took place within Cook County() which changed forever after abolitionist agitation throughout much of America led directly to statehood for Illinois in 1818().
