Dekalb, Illinois is a city located in Macomb County, Michigan. It is the county seat of Macomb County and home to the University of Dekalb and other technical universities. The population was 66,527 at the 2010 census. The name Dekalb comes from DeKalb Township in 1834, when General John Brown's army crossed the River Rouge into what is now Macomb County. In 1840, two brothers named Daniel and David White opened a store called The Arsenal on Washington Street near State Road 3rd in downtown Dekalb. In 1847, a group of men led by Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 100 acres (40 ha) north of town for $10 per acre (4½ sq km). They named their new tract "Forest Park" after Forrest's famous Forest Park plantation near Atlanta, Georgia where he had been living since 1842. Forrest had acquired this land through an agreement with President James K. Polk which allowed him to purchase 1 million acres (500 km2) of Native American land east of the Mississippi River for $3 million dollars ($100 million today). This acquisition made him one of America's richest men at that time. In 1850, Willard Richards organized the first Masonic Lodge in Dekalb when he officiated at its inauguration ceremonies . The site for the present Masonic Temple on Main Street was chosen because it was then zoned for manufacturing purposes only and no buildings had been erected there since before 1800 . On November 8th , 1853 , just three years after becoming a Masonry member, Richards built his first lodge hall – still standing today – on what is now his business lot on Elm Street east of Main Street . With this lodge building Richards began building what would become one of Dekalbs most important landmarks – permanent homes for Masons across many generations In 1865 , Jno Pemberton organized another Masonic Lodge while serving as Master Mason under Grand Master Hiram Johnson When Johnson left office in 1893 , Pemberton served as Grand Master until his death five years later In 1898 , John Witherspoon organized another Masonic Lodge while serving as Master Mason under Grand Master William Poindexter . When Poindexter died without childrens., Witherspoon succeeded him as Grand Master

Dekalb was founded as a village in 1836 by Nicholas DeKalb and others, and became a town in 1854. The name Dekalb comes from the Algonquian word "deka" meaning "a clearing or tract of land." The village had a post office from 1836 to 1840. The town of Dekalb was organized on November 3, 1854, under the name of Bloomington because many residents there had moved to Bloomington from other parts of Cook County when it was created. In 1872, all but one block of the original townsite were acquired by Bloomington; this left Dekalb with only its central business district and two blocks east and west of that block as residences. In 1922, following passage of the General Assembly's Normal School Act (1896), Dekalb established itself as an independent school district; it remains so today. In 1927-28, Dekalb erected its first high school building which still stands today on Park Boulevard north of I-94/I- 55 junction - now home to both North Suburban High School (grades 9-12) and Southwestern High School (grades 11-12). The new structure served as the cornerstone for what would become known as Mitchell Park High School - one of Illinois' most popular high schools for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds since it opened its doors in 1955. In 1892–93, an important construction project happened in Dekalb when John Pritzker purchased land east of present-day Fenway Park for use as a parkland area for people living around Chicago (now known as White Sox Park). This project included building of various recreational facilities such as ice rinks and baseball diamonds which have seen continuous use ever since including hosting America's Cup Races every summer since 1903! In 1902–03 there was another significant construction project when John Pritzker donated land to the City of Chicago for use as an extension of Soldier Field - one that continues to be used today by both the Chicago Bears football team and soccer team (known as “Chicago Fire”). At this time much progress had been made with plans for domesticated plants being grown throughout central Illinois using equipment imported from Germany; however due to World War I devastation throughout Europe many buildings were lost or destroyed including most importantly Pritzker's original donation! After V-E Day (September 11th) 1945 most everyone who lived within 5 miles radius turned their back on war – primarily because so much property had been taken advantage of during those three years! As result many trees were cut down without any remorse or compensation being given!! One can only imagine how heartbreaking it must have been for these innocent bystanders suddenly faced with so much destruction right next door! Thankfully over time things have changes somewhat with more development taking place closer to downtown but even then there are still occasions where something goes wrong like when cars drive into petunias growing along blocks bordering Soldier Field! As mentioned earlier John Pritzker left his mark on DeKalb through giving not just financial support but also engineering assistance during both World Wars II efforts including designing / constructing several major dams across Cook county while also becoming quite popularly well known within Chicagoland due to his philanthropy! Today all indications point towards him continuing this legacy through remainder of his life should he decide to step down at some point – something that definitely looks likely considering his age!!! But enough about Mr.Pritzker – let's move onto our current topic shall we? On September 15th 1925 local high school student Homer Hickman set out into rural Cook county trying unsuccessfully Heading westbound on I-71 towards Springfield he encountered what would become known as 'the nightingale'. Hickman rode up behind her singing "I am going home" before she continued her journey further westward unharmed despite allegations made against him soon afterwards alleging that he sexually assaulted her….. later found guilty and sentenced to 10 years probation after which he contributed $5 000 towards damages caused by the attack…….. actually no charges were ever brought against him though somepublicity ensued making it difficult if not impossible for anyone else following his story…. Still one mystery solved…..
