The Dixon Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1875. It is one of the oldest rifle clubs in Illinois. The club has a rich history that began with the founding of a musket range on the east side of town. In 1876, Dixon was chartered as a city and renamed after Daniel Dixon, a prominent local landowner who had donated land for the city’s incorporation. The first meeting of the Dixon Rifle and Pistol Club took place on October 26, 1876. Eleven members present were sworn in as charter members. Dixon became an important center for firearms training in Illinois. pistolsmiths from nearby Carbondale created many Springfield-made pistols for use by the Dixon Rifle and Pistol Club during its early years. In 1886, Dixon was incorporated as a village and renamed again to Ridgeway after current mayor John Denton Ridgeway (1851-1925). Gun store owners within the village enjoyed exemption from paying taxes on their profits derived from selling firearms to residents of Dixon or elsewhere in Cook County; this privilege lasted until 1915 when it was abolished by Act No. 4 Of 1912 which also established county limits within Cook County (northside included). In 1889, Captain George Akeley organized what is now known as Chicago’s first rifle club which meets monthly at various locations around town including Oriental Place (now known as Midway Park). Captain Akeley served as president of that organization from 1889-1893 inclusive before his death at age 53 while serving as captain of Company B 2nd Regiment Illini Volunteers at Chickamauga Creek battlefield near Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 17th 1893. The town was platted in 1834 by John Fenton, a MajorGeneral in Ulysses S. Grant's army who had been born in Dixon Township on November 11, 1786. In 1908, Dixon became one of 73 towns consolidated into Chicago with its then-largest city population size; it would be annexed by Chicago again soon after that without anyvillagers' choice or vote (the consolidation took place under Mayor Richard Maki). In 1965, when Dixon merged with Park Ridge to form Wheaton Township there were few people living there left except for two churches which remain today: Christ’s Chapel and Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Church (originally built as Holy Family School). In 1994 this merger also created Park Ridge village which now has a population over 1,000 residents Dixon features rolling hills outside of its downtown limits and offers limited public transportation options although it does have buses running between parkrose village and downtown chicago daily. There are no stores within walking distance of most people's homes so farmers markets make up most grocery shopping within driving distance while gas stations are located about 10 miles away if you're looking for groceries not just fuel In addition to farming activities some businesses located here include: First National Bank - which still operates outofthedoor tellers today - Ford Motors plant - where Ford started producing cars back in 1903 - Archer Daniels Midland Co., Wrigley Settlement Company (later Jell-O) factory - which produced marshmallows from 1903 until 1961 - Honeywell Air Conditioning Plant - home to many famous brands including Carrier Inc.- all these businesses closed down but continue to produce products locally

In the early 1800s, firearms were a scarce and expensive commodity. To purchase a firearm, one had to be able to afford it. This was especially true for those who could not own land or were not wealthy enough to have access to firearms. Therefore, many people resorted to purchasing firearms illegally through processes such as smuggling and theft.
