Pepper spray, also known as TASER, was first used in the United States during the Vietnam War. The weapon was originally designed to shoot rubber bullets out of handguns and other munitions. It has since been replaced by pepper spray as the most effective means of self-defense against suspects. Pepper spray is currently being used increasingly in law enforcement settings across the United States. Pepper spray is especially popular among police officers who are often called on to deal with large crowds or unruly behavior. The history of pepper spray can be traced back to 1876 when a man named John Ayscough developed a device that could fire darts out of a hand cannon using pepper gas as an aerosol propellant. This early form of pepper spray proved ineffective and was eventually replaced by gas grenades that fired pellets of water droplets at high speed which created an intense burst of force when detonating. In 1907, another scientist named Alfred Nobel developed a torpedo launcher that could launch projectiles with both water and volatile gases including pepper gas. The Torpedo Launcher Project utilized this new technology to launch darts filled with water droplets at high speed at targets up to 100 yards away from the launcher itself. These projectiles were not only effective but also very dangerous because they had a high chance of hitting someone if they were released close enough to them - something that wasn't possible with traditional firearms methods such as firing rounds into crowds). In 1972, American chemist Ronald Greene invented an improved version of pepper spray called OCI (Oral Confinement Injuries). OCI is designed specifically for use against suspects who are trying to resist arrest or escape after being accused of committing a crime. The goal behind OCI is two-fold: first, it will provide temporary incapacitation while agents try to subdued the subject; second, it will provide long-term protection from penetration by objects or bodily fluids if successful in achieving its intended goal. Today, OCI remains one of the most common methods used by law enforcement throughout North America for subduing suspects during arrests and searches - particularly in larger cities where there may be limited opportunity for peaceful negotiation or resistance
