In 1916 Mayor John Hylan founded the Chicago Historical Society which operates the largest municipally sponsored museum complex in North America outside of New York City - more than 150 buildings including some dating back to 1755 - as well as dozens of other museums and research institutions across Chicagoland covering history from antiquity to contemporary issues such as energy conservation It wasn't until after World War II that Franklins began making significant contributions to their community with activism on behalf of social welfare programs like Project Cares and Little Rock Industrial School located just blocks away from where they lived and worked; developing parks like Archer Heights (now Douglas Park), Midway Gardens (now Graceland Avenue), Lincolnwoods (now Woodlawn Avenue), Ridgewood Manor (now Glencoe Avenue) – all located around then newly created Parkside Drive – among many others The city experienced rapid growth following World War II thanks largely to federal stimulus programs which led to increased manufacturing hereabouts followed by higher densities characterized by early 20th century suburban sprawl extending beyond either Lake Michigan or Limits Road into adjacent neighborhoods bordering both lakes while streets becameamacentricly named after corporate headquarters rather than arterial routes typical then for most American cities leading eventually today's limited variety on mini arterial streets near major intersections despite much progress made since 1940s toward comprehensive street renaming throughout larger city
The first European to visit Franklin Park was the French explorer, Jacques Marquette in 1679. The area that is now Franklin Park was part of the town of Chicago before it became a state in 1837. In 1847, the Illinois General Assembly voted to make Franklin Park a state park and it has been continuously maintained as such ever since.
