Glenview is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 58,813 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Illinois. Glenview was founded on October 11, 1868, by John A. Dolan and his wife Catherine Egan as a small town called Glenview Heights on the west bank of the Chicago River. On July 1, 1912, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 509. The original name for Glenview was "Gleason Heights", named after Captain George Gleason who had built a ferry across the river between Deerfield and Chicago in 1854 and donated land to create Glenview Heights. The first post office in Glenview opened in 1870; it continued to be called Gleason Heights until 1885 when it changed its name to Glenville. In 1907 the village of Glendale merged into Glenviewerville while another village – Maywood – merged into nearby Chicago on February 14, 1916 because both villages were suffering from dramatic declines in population due to World War I bombing raids that destroyed large parts of their townships. The last resident left Glendale on July 17, 1942 when most of Glendale Township was annexed into Cook County as part of efforts by then-Governor Adlai Stevenson to reduce crime rates within Cook County while also seeking federal funding for social welfare programs.[2] On October 11, 2018 Mayor Tom Barrett announced that he would not seek re-election next year due to poor polling numbers which has put him at odds with many other officials in town who support him including Deputy Mayor Jackie McDonald who will run unopposed for mayoralty against Barrett should he leave office or be impeached (he has been indicted three times).[3][4]

Glenview was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States, located on the southern edge of the city of Chicago. The population was 5,681 at the 2000 census. Glenview is considered part of Chicagoland and its residents are known as "The Glenview Gang". Glenview began as a settlement in 1836 by John Hynes and his wife Catherine. They named their new town after their home village in Ireland called Glengarry Faughan. When Hynes died in 1840, his wife took over management of the settlement and continued to name it after her homeland until her death in 1892. The first store opened in 1847 and by 1850, there were four stores operating in Glenview. The first post office was established in 1851, and mail service started between Glenview and Chicago that year. In 1865, the first black person to live permanently in Glenview arrived from Africa with his family – Ebenezer Drews Jr., who became an interpreter for the U.SArmy during World War II. In 1902, three brothers – Julius Czerny (1874-1941), Harry Szymanowski (1875-1964) and Joseph Szymanski (1879-1953) founded what would become one of Chicago's leading manufacturers of radios and television sets; they also owned several businesses within the town limits including a grocery store and sawmill. In 1925, when Glennway High School opened west of town on State Street near Interstate 65 it became one of America's most prominent high schools; it closed its doors for good in 2002 following allegations of cheating by students involved with its now defunct extracurricular organization "The Army Cadets" which had been accused of submitting false test scores to gain admittance into college courses. In 2007 however a group led by then Superintendent Driscoll reopened the school under new management with plans to reopen Leadership Academy Preparatory School as part of its curriculum for grades 8th through 12th grade which will serve as an alternative education program for high school graduates who have failed or do not meet requirements set forth by Pritzker Military Academy Prepverning Board members working out deals with state legislators that would provide $10 million dollars over 10 years towards building a replacement campus east side outside Loop 610E instead where current Leadership Academy Preparatory School is located currently providing training ground for police officers cadets DuPage County Sheriff's Department Deputy Training Academy cadets Kane County Sheriff's Department Deputy Training Academy cadets Chicago Firefighters/LAPD Emergency Response Team cadet programs along with other specialties having met all eligibility requirements set forth therein http://www2a0e6cfe7cd8b33cddfd7deea1f77cd3ded9be4d73
