Huntley is named after George Washington Hunt and his family who settled there in 1836. The first settler in Huntley was Isaac Newton Hunt, who donated land to the community in 1836. In 1860, James A. Boren purchased land from Isaac Newton Hunt and made it into a town. The name change came about because of an election held that year in which Abraham Lincoln won the state of Illinois by a narrow margin over John Fenton on the basis of voter turnout rather than political affiliation. In 1962, Huntley had its own post office and incorporated as a village. On July 1, 1969, it became an independent city when it merged with Park Ridge to form the Chicago metropolitan area.

Huntley, Illinios is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,792 at the 2010 census. Huntley is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Huntley was Jesse Wigglesworth who arrived in 1836. The town was platted on July 3, 1837 by John Hengeseed and James Fenton. In 1850, Alexander Prentice donated land to the village for school purposes only and it remained that way until 1871 when it became a part of McLean Township. Huntley post office opened on November 15, 1872 and closed on October 10, 1888 due to low postal volume. It reopened on January 8 of that year under the name of Easton after one of its trustees had taken up residence there. In 1904-1905 (the time frame covered by this paper), Huntley's citizens organized a fire fighting brigade which would become an important component of local emergency services; however this service ended before it could be put into full operation because of lack of money from state government coffers. 1st Ward Alderman George Ahern spearheaded the effort to start a new fire department with $3K raised from private donations through his Committee for Civic Improvement and also brought over two firefighters from neighboring towns like Blue Island and Maywood as consultants . This new department served the community continuously until 1973 when it merged with the Cook County Sheriff's Department which happened to be located just down Main Street from where Huntley’s original Volunteer Fire Department used to stand
