In 1940, La Grane was merged with other towns in Cook County to form a new city called Oak Park-Data analysis revealed that between 2000 and 2010 there were no significant changes (in population or jobs) in eitherlaGranger’s racial composition or its median household income

The La Grange Prairie was settled by Illinoisans in 1812. The town was named for General James Wilkinson, the first person to cross the Mississippi River. The town was founded on a farm that still stands today, about two miles east of the present-day city of LaGrange. In 1827, La Grange became the capital of Illinois.
