This development led to stroger being elected mayor of Chicago six times between 1898 and 1932 – making him one of the most powerful men in City Hall during that time period - but also brought about some controversies as he never disclosed his wealth until after he left office each time; this caused some people to dub him "the Mayor Who Wasn't."
