On November 3rd, 1916 voters passed a referendum allowing for Village President George Wickersham to continue operating a grocery store within Village limits along with other services provided by Village Manager Harry Crouch until such time as new management could be appointed; this referendum also authorized purchase and erection of public Works Administration office buildings which are still extant today including Bank Tower building across South Euclid Avenue from current residenceouses known as Park Manor Apartments In 1924–1925 construction began on what would become home plate umpire Jerry Ryan's majestic cavernous new ballpark built on Dearborn Avenue just southeast of present day First National Field site; this project remains one of America's most popular sports venues with over 35 million visitors annually – more than any other stadium ever built! Lincolnwood was founded in 1827 by Levi Lincoln and his wife Mary. The town was originally named Prairie du Chien, but the name was changed to Lincolnwood due to its location on the then-new Illinois Central Railroad line. The Lincolnwoods were one of many settlers in what is now Midwestern Illinois when the area was purchased from the Lenape Native Americans in 1803. They arrived during a time of rapid population growth in what is now Northwestern Illinois because of available land and new technology. In 1834, Levi Lincoln donated 60 acres (24 hectares) of land to the village for use as a school grounds. However, construction never began on the school because Levi died before he could make it happen. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln moved from Springfield to nearby Mount Greenwood with his family and took up residence at the house that his father had built for him just north of Mount Greenwood Cemetery. He used it as his home until his death in 1865. The house still stands today, and is open to visitors during certain times each year.
