The Village of Lincolnwood was organized on November 3, 1916. The village is named for Abraham Lincoln and his family who were residency in nearby Palatine until 1847 when they moved to what is now Kane County. After the American Civil War, many Union veterans came back to live in Illinois after their services were discharged and started businesses such as tanneries and clothing stores. One of these business owners was James Gillespie who opened Gillespie's grocery store in 1865 which became one of the largest grocery stores east of the Mississippi River. In 1876 Gillespie also built a home on present-day Lincolnwood Boulevard which still stands today as a contributing property to the Village of Lincolnwood. During World War II, many soldiers came back to IL after serving in Europe and brought with them their families who settled around North Center Drive (now known as State Street). This area became known as "The Strip" because so many people had bought land there for development purposes including Sears Roebuck & Co., Ford Motors Company, Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and other companies that would later become major employers in town during peacetime years when North Center Drive remained largely rural. In 1963, Mayor John Pritzker appointed Charles Weisman as Village President and He recommended that Lincolnwood establish itself as a residential community with more than 1,000 homes within its boundaries but no shopping center or public buildings beyond its first block from Lake Michigan beach access just north of I-94/I-635 exit 15A (now Elmhurst Road). On October 16th 1965 voters approved incorporation by referendum becoming one of only three villages nationally to do so following similar votes by townships throughout Illinois. A year later on December 12th 1966 Mayor Pritzker issued an ordinance establishing zoning regulations forbidding any new housing developments larger than 7 stories without priorVillage Planning Board approval; this prohibition remains today though some single story homes have been erected since then inside the existing limits while others have been built outside those limits on undeveloped lots adjacent to various parks/residences currently under construction or planned development by residents themselves including several large mixed use buildings proposed for Arlington Park near Navy Pier reflecting both current trends within ourvillage alongwith future growth potential thanks largely to ongoing investment by developer(s) working closely with Village Management Committee members

Lincolnwood is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,816 at the 2010 census. Lincolnwood is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by the towns of Skokie to the east and north, Lemont to the west, Arlington Heights to the south, and Westchester on its southeast corner. The first settler in what is now Lincolnwood was John Maynard who arrived in 1837 from Connecticut. He started a farm there and named it after his older brother-in-law Samuel Hanks who had also settled in that area about two miles (3 km) to the southwest. John Maynard's son Isaac also lived in Lincolnwood during its early years. In 1868, Abraham Lincoln visited this area while campaigning for president and gave a speech at Hammonds Mills near present day Lombard Avenue and Pulaski Road. This event helped spur further settlement within what would become Lincolnwood. By 1870, there were already over 100 residents living here clustered around three churches: First Methodist Church (founded 1868), Second Methodist Church (1871), and Chicago Bible Chapel (1873). Over time, many other religious denominations have followed as well including Lutheranism (1887), Protestant Episcopalians (1905), Pentecostalism (1945), Assemblies of God/Iglesia Christiana De Jesús y La cruz de Cristo Apostolico(1950). In 1978, Presbyterian Reverend Driscoll established an elementary school which currently serve grades K-5th grade located adjacent to First Presbyterian Church which opened in 1915 as Prairie View A&M School District No.(PVASD) No./Lincolnwoodschool #2 . The current enrollment forgrades 6th through 8th grade is 511 students with plans for expansion up to 7th grade should new land be acquired on both sides of Pulaski Rd between Lombard Ave & Wheaton Rd! Now that’s expanding! A post office called "Lincoln Woods" was established at this location on November 15, 1888; it served until October 1st 1952 when it became part of the newly created Park Forest Post Office District #1 . In 1922 they merged with Park Forest Post Office District #2 becoming one entity again known as Park Forest Post Office District #3 . Finally on July 1st 1959 they split into two parts - Park Forest Post Office District #4 & Oak Lawn Post Office District No.#1 which still serve separate functions today! Today’s ZIP code 77301 has been used since 1963 by both districts resulting in some confusion but thankfully no more email problems thanks USPS…lol! And that’s just history lesson number one folks…..onward we go………. As mentioned earlier , Abe Lincoln's visit back in 1868 spurred settlers here even further so by 1870 there were already over 100 people living here clustered around three churches: First Methodist Church (founded 1868), Second Methodist Church (1871), and Chicago Bible Chapel (1873). Churches continued growing throughout their subsequent decades with Third United Presbyterian church opening up shop on Elmhurst Ave., Highland Ave., & Wabash Ave respectively between 1903-1970 while First United Methodist church moved uptown to bigger digs on State Street by 1975ish however their smaller building still stands today next door to Chicago History Museum across from Lake Michigan shoreline park across from McCormick Place shopping center
