Gun Parts History in Machesney Park, Illinois Macheney Park is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois. It was founded in 1837 by James Bissell and his family. The name of the town derived from the Native American word "machac," meaning "a place to hunt." The first post office in Machesney Park was established on January 7, 1839. The first settler in Machesney Park was James Bissell. bissell owned land near the present day intersection of Route 66 and State Road 113. He built a cabin there on December 5, 1838. bissell also erected a log house on what is now First Street. bissell's cabin still stands today and is known as the Bissell House Museum. In 1840, John Wolkowitz moved to Machesney Park from his home in Danville. Wolkowitz started a grocery store here and later took over the running of the post office which he operated until his death in 1865. In 1842, George Weimer bought some property adjacent to wherebissell had built his Cabin and started growing corn thereon for food purposes only (the current Weimer farmstead sits atop this original cornfield). In 1863, Mr.. Grosse moved into Machesney Park from Decatur Township (now Bloomington), Illinois with his wife Anna Maria (née Kapp). Machesney Park is a small, rural town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,524 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. MACHESNEY PARK was established in 1836 by John Machin and his brother James Machin as a station on the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. John Machin had been an employee of the company since 1824 when he joined its predecessor, the Chicago and Rock Island Railway. The machining business was founded by James Machin in 1827 as a partnership with his father-in-law Amos Beecher. The brothers purchased 1,500 acres (560 hectare) of land west of Kedzie Avenue in 1839 from Solomon Northrup for $5 per acre. They built a gristmill on what is now State Street and named it after their father-in-law, David Laird Machesney. In 1840 they added two more mills to their enterprise; one on Old Ottawa Road near State Street and the other on Randolph Road northeast of Kedzie Avenue. This included one of the first waterwheels in America – designed by Jethro Tullis – which powerned the mills until 1886 when steam engines replaced them. The Machins continued to operate their mills until they sold them to Leland Stanford Jr., founder of Stanford University, in 1923 for $25 million total ($ when adjusted for inflation). In 1934–35 they donated all 712 acres (310 hectares) east of Kedzie Avenue to be used asMachines Park—later renamed Machesney Park after John Daley Sr.'s father Mayor Edward Machesney (1875–1965)—an idea originated with his wife Jane Byrne Daley (1914–1996). The DeLeon guns were characterized by their intricate design and featured a revolving cylinder that allowed for quick reloading. These pistols were known as “Plymouth Revolvers” because they were made in the town of Plymouth in Massachusetts. The American Civil War began on April 12th 1861 and ended on October 14th 1865. During this time, thousands of Americans died due to gunshot wounds or combat related injuries. In 1865, arms manufacturer Remington Arms Corporation purchased DeLeon’s patents and became the sole owner of his company. Remington continued production of DeLeon-designed revolvers until 1898 when they discontinued all handgun production altogether due to advancements in technology. In 1868 Winchester Repeater Company was founded by William Winchester with the goal of creating a reliable repeating rifle that could be fired multiple times without reloading. At first these rifles were made only for military use but soon after became available civilian market as well (Winchester Model 1892). This rifle was chambered for the .45 caliber cartridge which gave it an advantage over other firearms in combat because it was able to penetrate armor much easier than other rounds at its distance from the target

The rifle was chambered for the .30-06 Springfield cartridge which allowed it to fire a projectile that could reach a range of nearly 400 meters (about 1,600 feet). In 1938, the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge became available and soon replaced the .30-06 as the standard caliber for American firearms. The M1 rifle served in both World Wars and was used by many different armies around the world before being retired in 1949.
