Machesney Park, Illinois is a small town in La Salle County, Illinois that was founded in 1837. The population of Machesney Park was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Macheney Park is located east of the city of Chicago on the Cook County border. It is bordered by Elmhurst to the north, River North to the east, and Sangamon Valley to the south. The community straddles a natural depression formed by two larger valleys: Elmhurst Valley to the north and Sangamon Valley to the south. The first settler in Machesney Park was John Mahony who arrived in 1837. Mahony built a cabin near what is now Main Street and First Avenue. He later moved his family to a grant he received from James Kasky. Kasky owned much of what is now La Salle County and granted land for settlement. In 1838, John Mahony's son Michael erected a log cabin on what is now State Road 431 which became known as Mahonysville Rd.. In 1840, Isaac Morehouse purchased lands within Machesney Park from James Kasky. Morehouse established himself as an entrepreneur with businesses such as a bakery and tannery along Main Street between Grafton and Randolph Roads (now State Road 431). Morehouse also developed property within Machesney Park including what is now Water Tower Place (). In 1851, Morehouse donated land adjacent to his farmstead on present day State Road 431 for public use; this became known as Machesney Park Township (). In 1865-1866, Jesse Laughlin sold 640 acres surrounded by mown fields west of current day State Road 431 (now South Shore Drive) for $2 per acre ($46 total). This parcel became known as Laughlin Prairie ()/. In 1870-1871 David Wesselman sold 636 acres surrounding him on present day Northshore Drive (now part of I-88) for $4 per acre ($72 total). This parcel became known as Wesselman Prairie (). On October 14th 1860 during an election meeting held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jacksonville Township (), Abraham Lincoln was elected President of America with 61% of the vote against opponent Stephen Douglas (). Many residents in Jacksonville Township voted because they believed Lincoln would make good decisions based on his experience as a Congressman from Illinois’ 3rd congressional district (). Consequently, many people living within Jacksonville Township wanted their own township established so they could have their say about where their community should be located. On November 10th 1860 after deliberations among township leaders it was decided that Jaxation Township would be named after Abraham Lincoln instead of Chicago because there were more people from Illinois living there than people from Chicago ()/. On December 16th 1860 Abraham Lincoln moved into Jaxation Township with his family(). After becoming President he appointed six members to serve on his Executive Committee (); these individuals were: Nicholas Biddle (Postmaster), Augustus Kelley (Justice), Salmon Pekin (Attorney General), Samuel Tilden(Governor),and Levi Woodbury()/.

Machesney Park, Illinois was founded on October 25, 1811 by Amos M. Chasson and his wife Rebecca. The Chassons were the first white settlers in what is now Illinois. The park is named after John Machin, a signer of the United States Constitution. Machin was one of the earliest pioneers to find land in what is now Illinois. In 1795, he purchase 640 acres from the Potawatomi Nation for $200 dollars worth of goods and services. Machin built a home on this land and called it Machin's Grove. After years of hard work,Machin's Grove became one of the largest farms in DuPage County. John Chouteau arrived in DuPage County about 1800 and began trading with Native Americans for goods and trade animals such as horses, dogs, guns and other items needed by settlers. In 1809, Chouteau sold his interest in Machin's Grove to Amos Chasson for $2,500 cash. With this new investment,Chassin set out to make Machedney Park one of the most prosperous places inDu Page County. He started construction on a small log cabin that would become known as "the White House." This cabin served as an office for many years before it was eventually replaced by the current structure which stands today at Machesney Park’s core square mile (square kilometer). Amos Chassin died on December 2nd 1830 leaving behind him two sons: Amos Jr., who succeeded him as owner/manager of Machesney Park; also Solomon Jolin (1829-1901), who ran a grocery store at Niles Place near present day Union Station until his death young age; all three men left behind them vast amounts of property which still makes up part of present day MACHESNEY PARK boundaries
