Machesney Park, located in the city of Chicago, is a significant historical and cultural center. It was founded in 1868 by John Bachman, arailroad contractor and entrepreneur. The park occupies over 6,000 acres (2 km²) and includes a number of attractions including the Chicago Zoo, the Illinois State Fairgrounds, and the 15-acre (50 m²) Lake Michigan shoreline park. The park is home to two main entrances: one on South Halsted Street in the heart of downtown Chicago and another on West Side Highway near Wacker Drive. In addition to these entrances there are entrances from various streets within Machesney Park itself. These include North Shore Drive/East River Drive/West Side Highway; South Shore Drive/Lake Michigan Boulevard; Northwest Side Drive/Milwaukee Avenue; East Side Drive/South Holland Avenue; Northwest Side Drive/Chicago Avenue. The total area of Machesney Park covers 6,575 acres (2 km²). Machesney Park was designated as an Historic District by City Council on November 5th, 1954. On September 22nd 1957 Mayor Richard J. Daley ordered that all public lands east of Cicero be annexed into Machesney Park effective October 1st 1957 which included 122 acres (49 ha) of land between Milwaukee Avenue on the north side and Jackson Road on the south side which had been part of Racine Township.[1] This action established Machesney Park as a well-planned open space with uninterrupted views of Lake Michigan across its entirety surrounded by private property owned by wealthy Chicagoans who subscribed to its preservation goals. Today much remains unchanged from when it first became available for public use though some areas have experienced more recent development such as North Shore Drvve./East River Drvve./West Side Hwy.; South Shore Drvve./Lake Michigan Boulevard; NorthwestSide Drvve./Milwaukee Ave.; EastSide Drvve./South Holland Ave.; Northwestside Drvr./Chicago Aver.] Allowing for further expansion were two major additions made to MACHNEY PARK during this time: The completion in 1966of a new visitor parking garage adjoining Northwestern University's campus which served as an overflow lot for students attending class at Northwestern University's other campuses nearby[2]andthe dedication in 1978of three long expanses of green lawn surrounding what would become known as "The Green Mile" - an area bounded by Nw side drvr., Ewing Rd., Rush St., & Clinton St.[3] These expansions helped give shape to what is now one of Chicagos most popular tourist destinations with extensive modern amenities available throughout its nearly 2 kilometer circumference

Machesney Park is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Machesney Park was named for General James Machin (1767-1835), a Union general who fought in the Mexican War and the American Civil War. Machin's home is still extant and open to the public as the Machin House Museum. The first settlers in Machesney Park were Methodists from Manchester Township, New York. In 1837, John Denton bought 160 acres of land north of present-day Machesney Park from Methodist cleric Rev. Ebenezer Bemis for $200 cash and also received five cows and four horses as compensation for his donation. The first house on this property was built by Denton in 1838/39 using logs brought over from Canada via wayfarers on steamboats which stopped at what is now known as Wabash Avenue near what is now Lincoln Road (now Geneva Lane). In 1846, Daniel Gurney donated an acreage east of present-day Machesney Park to the town for use as a cemetery; it would be located on what is now southbound Eisenhower Boulevard between State Street and Cicero Avenue today. The Gurney family continued to donate parcels of land to Macheney Park until their death in 1928. Macheney Park began its own school system in 1863 when Reverend Jno Hargrave organized a group of Methodists into a school board with Drury Drive School as its first stopover while they traveled through central Illinois teaching children’s morals and religious basics such as reading Scripture and praying together before Mass at local churches along their way back home sick or tired from services that day! A second stopover was made at Hawkins Mills where graduates boarded boats back upriver until reaching Springfield to return home that night! Withholding tax payments incurred during World War I forced many residents of Mount Prospect to leave their homes; however, many more people moved into what became Mishawaka Heights later on when all but one block east ofpresent-day Elmhurst Street were annexed by Machesney Park due to political boundaries then changing without notice just prior to annexation becoming effective according to current law – making it difficult if not impossible for anyone looking back through official records even today to know exactly how much area became part of our township after1920! The park was founded on April 20, 1892 by Daniel M. Machover, who also created Lincoln Park to its east. The North Side of Machesney Park was annexed by the City of Chicago in 1955; it now forms part of the Near West Side neighborhood.
