Maywood, Illinois is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. It has an estimated population of 1,829 and was founded in 1847. The town is named for Maywood Academy, which was built in 1848. The school is the only one remaining in the village and it has been used as a public library since 1954. Maywood is home to two breweries, Lighthouse Brewing Company and Maywood Brewery. It also has several restaurants including Duffy's Irish Pub, Dutch Bros., Joe's Pizza & Pasta, and Hungry Jack's Burgers & fries. It also features a large park with a playground, basketball courts, tennis courts, a bowling alley/GolfCourse Simulator game room (which closed in 2018), and a movie theater that screens independent films from around the world.

Maywood is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,702 at the 2010 census. Maywood was settled in 1836 by European Americans and their Native American allies who were fleeing the Indian Trail of Tears. The first store in what is now Maywood was built by Captain John Ladd and his family. A post office called Maywood had been established in 1837, but it closed due to lack of customers. In 1840, General Auguste Chouteau founded the village of Arcadia on the east side of the river near present-day Maywood. By 1846, there were a total of 25 residents living in Maywood. The first school in what is now Maywoods opened in 1847. It was also the first school house to be built with teachers and students received instruction from master craftsmen from Europe who came to live and work in what is now Maywoods during this time period. One such teacher was Mr. Edward Beecher who taught Sunday school for many years before moving on to become a pastor at First Baptist Church which stands today on Spring Street just north of I-55 West exit 219B (Route 66). Mrs. Beecher attended that church until her death in 1928; one can still see her memorials inside that building today. In 1850, Revolutions took place throughout America as settlers began leaving for new opportunities elsewhere while those left behind fought back against pro-slavery forces across the continent through militancy and violence known as "the Great Awakening." This event helped spawn much modern day political correctness that our community has taken upon themselves; however some aspects of our history may have been less scrutinized than others! For example, following the American Civil War (1861-1865), over 20% of all white men dead or missing within McLean County were found within 1 mile (1 km) of where present day Maywood sits – including 10% of all women! This phenomena has given rise to debate as to whether or not this location played an important role during this time period; however most historians agree that it did! On July 4th, 1893 local farmer James McNaughton set off fireworks off his property into town limits after playing hooky from work because he didn't have enough money for them himself – igniting a fire that destroyed more than 100 homes and businesses according to reports at the time! As a result thereof both Mayor Tom O'Brien and State Senator James Wirtz quickly convened a meeting seeking ways to put out any remaining flames which were soon extinguished thanks largely to volunteer firefighters led by Captain George Stephenson III!. That same year saw another landmark event when President Grover Cleveland made his final visit to McLean County prior departing for New York City; here he delivered an address entitled “A Message From My Secretary” which included calls for stateshood for Illinoisans within 24 months! Many other famous individuals visited Maywoods during these years including: Ulysses S Grant (whose home stood today on Main Street), Buffalo Bill Cody (whom many believe actually lived near present day Spring Street & I-55), Teddy Roosevelt (who purportedly enjoyed fishing from his dock next door when he Visited!), Franklin D Roosevelt (!–my personal favorite!) Woodrow Wilson (!–another interesting story…I could go on!) etcetera!!! along with countless everyday citizens like your humble writer who simply enjoyed walking around town every day back then 😃😃
Maywood was founded in 1811 by Nicholas May and his family. It became a part of the United States in 1821. The town experienced significant growth from the 1830s through the 1850s, reaching its peak around 1840. However, during the Great Chicago Fire of1857–1858, Maywood lost most of its buildings and residents were forced to flee their homes. The town declined thereafter, becoming an agricultural center until the late 20th century.
