Maywood, Illinois is located in the southern half of Cook County, Illinois. The population of Maywood was estimated at 54,000 in 2010. The first documented settlement in the area was made by Native Americans in the late 17th century. In 1814, a party of Ulysses S. Grant's troops discovered oil reserves near present-day Maywood and began exploration. By 1848, there were over 100 businesses operating in Maywood. The city was incorporated on November 3, 1868. On October 15, 1893, the tracks running through town were cut north to Joliet because of an outbreak of cholera that had killed many people in nearby towns. In 1933, a dam across the Rock River was built to provide irrigation for surrounding farmland and create Lake Michigan State Park downstream from town. The park has since been renamed Maywood Regional Airport after its location within town limits during its early years as an airport
Maywood, Illinois is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,519 at the 2010 census. Maywood is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is the location of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University. The first settlers to Maywood were Nicholas and Rebecca Roe in 1838. They built a cabin on the current site of the old post office which still stands today as a museum open to the public. In 1841, John Fitch settled in what is now Maywood after leaving Nauvoo, Illinois. He set up a log cabin and named it "Fitch's Grove". Fitch's Grove became one of many small towns that sprang up around Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Park Ridge because it was convenient to get to services located near by on Lake Shore Drive (now Wacker Drive). The hospital was founded by Drs. David Sanger and John Hodge in 1906 as Northwestern Memorial Hospital Foundation Medical School with Drs. Harry Weisenthal and Julius Herschel as its first trustees In 1907–08 Northwestern Health System merged with Cook County’s physician-owned hospitals to form Northern Illinois Health System (NICHS). At this time there were seven NICHS medical schools: Northwestern Memorial Hospital (founded 1906), Cook County’s Mercy Hospital (opened 1909), Northern Iowa Medical Center (opened 1911), Rush University Medical Center (opened 1913), DePaul University College of Medicine (opened 1915), and McCormick Place Hospital—later known as Stritch Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery—(opened 1926) In 1932 NICHS merged with Duquesne State University to become Pennsylvania State University—formerly Duquesne Polytechnic Institute And so on until 1945 when Western Electric Company acquired Duquesne State University for $120 million dollars becoming Oneida Community College District No 1 As Oneida Community College District No 1 we changed our name to Maywood Community College District 2 before being renamed again to Maywood Community Colleges District 3 before finally becoming Maywood Community Colleges District 4 again when Southern Illinois Gas Pipe Line Company donated land for our new campus which opened in 1963 Today we are proud to be an official college district of Southern Illinois Gas Pipe Line Company under the name “Maywoods colleges”

Maywood is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is named after Maywood Manufacturing Company, which was founded in 1871 by George W. Maywood and his son-in-law, Julius J. Herrmann. The first settlers in what is now Maywood were farmers who arrived around 1814 on a grant from the Kankakee Band of Ojibwe Indians. By 1825, most of present-day Maywood had been surveyed and laid out as a town by John Prentice and other cattlemen looking for land to ranch near Chicago. In 1868, when the Illinois Central Railroad moved its tracks through the village, an depot was built at Fourth and Wood Streets (now Elm Avenue). A year later, the company also built a sawmill on Willow Path adjacent to where it still stands today. As early as 1881, residents were using hand tools to cultivate their gardens orchards that stretched along Third Street between Elm and Wood Avenues; these orchards would continue to produce fruit until 1975 when they were replaced by automated strawberry plants donated by Japan's Shimizu Brothers strawberry processing company. For much of their history, local farmers have supplemented their incomes with raising hogs, chickens or bees; however starting in the 1960s this specialization began to wane as more people became interested in urban living and suburban development nearby . In 1898 City Council decided that namesakes should be chosen for two new villages – Maywood Village (later known as North Side) and South Side – both located within walking distance of each other on Mifflin Street (now State Street). The councils approved South Side’s name because it appeared more likely than either of those given for our original townsite: “Mountain Grove” or “Lake Forest” (both appearing too formal), while “Maywood” sounded more like homecoming than either ever did before! So we got down to business ... picking our first name! We offered up “Walden Pond” but everyone loved it so much they kept it! Finally we came up with “Mayoodle” after all! Our current name has stuck because it seems just right - something about "the old mill" giving off an Old World feeling... After years of hard work from many citizens & officials alike including Mayor Richard Jaffe & Borough President Don Greenstein some progress has been made with updates & reconstruction projects such as replacing some critical water infrastructure
Maywood was founded in 1809 by John S. May and his wife Catherine. The town was named for the may trees that lined the banks of the river. By 1825, Maywood had a population of about 150 people.
