The Mount Vernon Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was chartered in 1885. The club’s first meeting was on October 12th, 1885. At the time, rifles were only available to members of the military or law enforcement agencies. In 1895, shotguns were added to the club initiations list and in 1907 pistols were also added. The Mount Vernon Rifle and Pistol Club currently has over 150 active members! The club is involved in many different ways including NRA magazine subscriptions, rifle and pistol rallies/meetings, target shooting competitions, historical research projects and more! Rifle range: This club is a member of the Illinois Federation of Ranges (IFR). This organization provides training opportunities for all members of the rifle clubs across Illinois. Range membership includes access to the facility with unlimited ammo supply. There are several outdoor ranges located throughout Illinois that can be used by members of the Mount Vernon Rifle and Pistol Club! Pistol range: This club is a member of Midwest State Armory Association (MSA). MSA provides instruction on both handguns as well as rifles from beginner through advanced levels. They also have an indoor pistol range that can be used by either individual or team members!

Mount Vernon, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLean County. Mount Vernon is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite of Mount Vernon was founded in 1838 by John Quincy Adams and his brother-in-law George Washington Parke Custis as a stop on their journey from Cairo, Egypt to Nauvoo, Illinois. On November 30, 1839, President James K. Polk issued an executive order creating Mount Vernon Township within Mclean County for "the exclusive use of white citizens only." The township's first meeting was held on December 2nd and it included two other villages: East Moline and West Moline. Abram Morse became the first settler in Mount Vernon Township on December 14th, 1839 and built what is now known as "Morse's Store" or "Abram's House". On January 3rd 1840 Abraham Morse married Lydia Ann Putnam from Joliet (now Chicago). They had six children: three girls and three boys: Amos H., Julia L., Abigail F., Seth W., Edward C., and Timothy J.. Their home at 614 N Main Street still stands today and serves as a museum dedicated to Abraham Morse family history. In 1850 Alice Ballou moved to Mount Vernon with her husband Daniel Boone Ballou from Kentucky after they purchased 5 acres (2 ha) of land near present day Elmwood Park in Cook County. They started a school there which taught between nine and twelve students during morning hours while also caring for their farm animals during evening hours. In addition to farming activities they also built a log cabin which served as their home until it burned down in 1903; later replaced by a larger house that still stands today named after them – Alice Ballou House #1 (MC902). Mrs Ballou died in 1912 but her husband continued living there until his death in 1945; he was buried next to his wife at Elmwood Park Cemetery . After World War II many residents left for various reasons including migration to cities such as Chicago or Indiana; however some people lived on the property through multiple generations until it sold off in 2000 . For many years all that remained were foundations for what are now houses Number 2 & 3 - ballards house original plans have not survived side by side since then! A large number of items related to life at Mount Vernon during this time period have been collected over the years by members of the Friends Historical Society who operate The Friends Shop located at 614 N Main Street where historical books, postcards, records etcetera are sold

Mount Vernon is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name Mount Vernon comes from George Washington and his family's 1792 purchase of land on the eastern side of the Chicago River for $6,000. The home was built on what is now State Street in 1814 and became one of president Washington's residences. He used it as his summer residence from 1797 to 1800 and also during winters when he resided at Potomac Court House in Virginia due to its warmth and easy access to horses and carriage transportation. In 1829, President James K. Polk purchased property adjacent to Mount Vernon for use as a presidential mansion; Polk moved into the house in 1845 after being elected Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President that year. Presidents Grover Cleveland (1897-1901) and Franklin D., Jr.'s (1939-1945) families also lived there during their terms as president and vice president respectively. Mount Vernon served as both presidential library (1900-2006) and White House Historical Association museum from 1949 until its closure in 2006 due to budget cuts by then President George W. Bush Administration; then it served as an office building known as One Lincoln Place until May 2009 when PIDC leased it back to the WHHA with plans to eventually open it back up as a museum once again under new management with more added content since 2006 including artifacts dating back over 2 centuries documenting American history In 2008 PIDC announced that they have secured enough funding through private donations totaling almost $200,000 which will allow them finally begin restoring much needed interior restoration work inside Historic Mount Vernon including returning original woodwork, painting restorements throughout entire homeOWNER OF MOUNT VERNON HOME HAS MET ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL DONATION
Mount Vernon was founded on the Illinois River in 1811 by General James K. Polk and his wife Julia Child. The town had a population of about 100 people when it was established, but soon grew to more than 1,000 people due to its proximity to the new capital of Illinois, Springfield. In 1823, Mount Vernon became the first city in Illinois. It held that distinction until 1865, when Chicago came into being.
