The company produced rifles and hunting optics for both the civilian and military markets. In 1903, Harry J. Brown began production of military surplus rifles under the name King's Arms, which became the world's first Specimen gun company. In 1916, Harry J. Brown died suddenly while working on a new rifle scope design; his son continued production of rifles with new Scope designs until his death in 1951. Today, King's Arms rifles are still being made in Mount Vernon as part of the Bushnell Corporation family of brands.
Mount Vernon is a small town in Decatur County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Mount Vernon is one of four towns in the village of Mount Vernon-on-the-Hudson and is served by its own school district. The first settler in what would become Mount Vernon was James Robertson in 1814. He built a log cabin on the summit of a hill near present day Princeton Road and named it "Robertson's Hill". In 1827, he bought land from Nicholas Wright for $1,000 and built another log cabin on what is now Maple Street between Elm and Harrison Streets. This became known as "Mount Vernon." In 1831, George Washington visited Mount Vernon while on his way to visit his plantations at Monticello plantation in Virginia. Washington stayed at Mrs. Wright's home until March 3rd when he went to her house again for dinner which continued until Sunday night when he left for Hampton Roads aboard HMS Constitution where he served as Commander-in-Chief during the American Revolution. In 1847, Augustus Philip Carruth arrived from Northampton County, New York with his family to purchase land called Mohawk Valley from Nicholas Wright for $4,500 dollars plus interest (this helped finance Carruth's exploration of central Illinois). Carruth named his new settlement after President George Washington because it was then that General James Kappes found out about Carruth's findings east of Springfield - this led Kappes to name all future settlements west of Springfield Mt. Vernon after Carruth himself including Kaskyville (now Saint Charles), Dutch Village (now Plainfield), East Aurora (now Aurora), White Oak Harbor (now Holland Park), Sleepy Hollow (now Glen Ellyn), Carversville (later Moline) and Randolphtowne Manor Court House & Farm Center which stands today still located just south of Southgate Drive off Izaak Walton Highway within walking distance of downtown Mt., V., N., W., north Platte River Bluffs—all founded by Mr.(?)Alexander Hamilton who also donated over 5 acres heretofore unoccupied lots to make up part of Clinton Township together with some 50 more acres northwest corner lying east side platting Indian Territory acquired by him therefrom thenceforward forming Jefferson Township adjoining Moultrie County line having an area nearly equal unto that now included within Chicago limits... these founders laid down their lives/ blood sweat & tears creating our very own township/ community—a model township self sufficient thruout Chicagoland...Erected Octavian Plessy had nothing but good things to say about 'em! On May 15th 1870 local elections were held and Richmond Whipple won an unofficial seat making him one fifth vote away from being elected Mayoralty but not yet allowed into office however due process dictates if no person has been registered since November 3rd then they are automatically elected mayor pro tem which happened here so next election will take place as soon as possible regardless! All kidding aside Richmond Whipple deserves all the credit going around missing out on this big spot may have just caused him some extra embarrassment though!
